Default 2007 saturn ion-2 2.2 BCM upgrade

I have a Saturn Ion-2 2.2 with power locks but no keyless entry/keyfob or cruise control. Is it possible to upgrade the body control module to one that will alow for these feature upgrades?

Thanks

In general, most manufacturers, including GM, will not program a vehicle module like a BCM with anything other than the VIN matched programming for that specific vehicle.

You might get lucky and find a junkyard BCM from a 2007 ion w those features, but the car itself needs to have the equipment installed for it to function. You cannot assume by default that the necessary wiring is in there to support what you are.. trying to add.

A remote key fob requires an antenna for receiving and sending. Cruise requires certain wiring that runs up the steering column. If you are going to add stock versions of these, you need to know if the wiring is already present or if you have to add to the wiring.

You could likely go stand-alone aftermarket on a remote fob system for door lock remote open. As for cruise, I'm just not sure if the wiring is in there. I tend to think not.

Keyless door locks are controlled by the BCM, cruise control is controlled by the ECM. The wiring diagrams I have show all necessary wiring for both systems with no notations on whether specific options are actually installed. Listing of BCMs and ECMs on eBay show that the same Interchange Part Number works for all 2006-2007 Ion-2 and Ion-3 models, with either the 2.2L or 2.4L engine.

My guess is that the module (BCM or ECM) must be programmed to enable specific features, possibly based on the VIN. And I don't know if the wiring harnesses are generic for all models (I suspect that they aren't). I do know that cruise control requires a different steering wheel with control buttons, and incorporates wiring into the brake lamp switch and the clutch switch (may use the same wiring the ECM already uses for these switches).

Thanks, guys. That sounds like a bit much. I was looking to diagnose a B3137 code (all door lock circuit low) and was thinking about trying to go keyless in the process. For some reason, the locks just make a click sound when I push the lock button. Not all the time, but I've been having to push it multiple times before it finally actually locks. A few days ago while I was working (delivery in my car) I kept having to spend a lot of time repeatedly pushing the lock button when ever I would have to park and leave away from my car. The unlock buttons work fine. Sometimes the lock one works on the first try.

Also, the feature where you can take the key out of the ignition and get out then hit the lock button once to have all the locks lock after the doors have been closed for about 5 seconds doesn't always work. The lights blink like they're supposed to, tho. Could this be a relay issue? I just figured I'd try and get an idea before I look into this

Thanks

From the FSM regarding B3137:
If the DTC B3137 is accompanied by DTC B3127 and B3132, the fault may be any of the following:
An open BCM PWR 15-amp fuse, which could be caused by any of the following:
The BCM is shorted to ground internally.
Any of the door lock actuator lock or unlock control circuits are shorted to ground.
The BCM has an internal open.
If DTC B3137 is set as current and DTCs B3127 and B3132 will not set with multiple lock and unlock switch activations, the BCM is internally open.
Troubleshooting steps recommend checking the connections at the BCM to ensure they are tight, with no corrosion. All of the wiring associated with the door lock system run through connector 3, a black 56-pin connector. With the battery disconnected, I'd recommend disconnecting, inspecting, using Deoxit or similar if any suspected corrosion is found, and reconnecting.

Thanks a lot. Gonna look into this
