Default 2007 Ion 2 Sedan -Trunk Vent Leak Fix

Hey All,

I bought a 2007 Ion 2 Sedan, and came across this site while doing some research about a leak in the trunk. I'm new to Saturns (new to American cars in general) as all my other vehicles have been Nissan pickup trucks. My wife (who will be the primary driver of the Saturn) has had several makes/models, but usually new/leased which means we never had to work on them. I bought this because the reviews I read said it was fuel efficient and easy to work on. I joined this site because I know I'll have questions which have probably already been answered.

About myself, I'm married with 2 kids, live in a suburb of Atlanta (Decatur), and do IT consulting for a living. My other vehicle is a 2002 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. I look forward to getting good answers from here!

Welcome to the forum. I have minimal knowledge of the Ion. I'd suggest looking at the trunk gasket for tears or maybe where it's been crushed. Also, make sure it's properly glued to the lip.

I figured out where it is coming from. There is a vent on the passenger side trunk wall. From what I've read, there is debate between whether it is for the battery or to "keep your head from exploding when you shut the doors and/or sunroof". Not so sure about the latter explanation. Anyhow, I believe the part is called a "pressure relief valve", there was a recall for it on earlier model Ions, and the fix is to get a new one and be sure to use RTV around it when replacing it. My two issues now is that a) I can't find a part number for it and b) it will require taking off the bumper and rear quarter panel. If it would just stop raining around here, it woudn't be such a big deal...
