2004 ion shuddering and stalling
2.2 ecotec when you step on the brake at a stop everything is fine but as soon as you take your foot off the brake it will shudder and if you try to accelerate it sometimes stalls. The other day when I parked, the key would not go in to the lock position, not allowing me to remove the key. When I started the car and left, the car acted perfect and worked perfect for 2 days. And back to the original problem. I installed iac valve, crank sensor, ignition module, purge valve, coil pack, and today i installed a new ignition switch. After I installed the ignition switch it still acted the same way but I decided to cycle the key off and on 3 times and the car ran great again. Needless to say that only lasted for 1 drive cycle. Any help would be great. 2004 saturn ion 2.2 ecotec 71000 miles. Thank you!
Is there any rattling noise at the belt end of the engine? The timing chain is a known weak point on these engines. Your car is twenty+ years old with low mileage, a prime candidate for missed oil changes.
No the timing chains fine it only has 70,000 miles on it. When it worked flawlessly there was always something to do with the ignition. First time it happened I couldn't get the key out it because it wouldn't allow me to go to the lock position fired the car up left the store and ran great for two days like that and then back to acting up. And like I stated the other night turn the key on and off three times and I could drive for miles and not an issue until I stopped and turned the vehicle off and cycle it back on again it almost like resets to malfunction.
Have you checked for codes? If there are some, clear them and see what comes back after the car is driven again. Chains can stretch in 70k miles if the oil changes have not been kept up. I am getting close on this one.
