i found a source that sells singles of these injectors; they are not ZZP specific, they are manufactured by another co and zzp is not the only retailer

Might as well pop a new injector in there test drive it some, prob change out the O2, and sell it , with full disclosure of compression issues.

Oh, and if he injector fixes the issue, replace the boost solenoid so the engine is protected from such events in the future.

AS $$$$ allow, of course.

Man, I just can't leave this car alone... I bet I've put 20 miles on it this month... The engine seems to idle a little better, but I've not checked the compression to know for sure... Threw a what I'm assuming is a misfire code at idle, the CEL was on for a day or so... Went off when I drove it, so I'm not sure... I priced out a new, professionally built engine(minus small parts) from ZZP at around $4200... From there it would needs stuff like timing chain, water pump, head gasket, and professional assembly which hadn't yet been quoted... With the engine, it would certainly make over 300whp, but for the money, I could buy a whole other car to play with..,

$4200? I hope that's the quote on zzp's gen 3 block.
If youre spending that kind of money, you may as well buy it fully built bottom end and ported head.

Why would you replace the little things? As long as they are still good, you can use em. Meaning water pump, thermo, etc.
But I agree, I would do a new timing chain, head gasket, valve cover gasket, timing cover gasket, etc.

You can probably find a low mile stock lsj block for a couple hundred. I know that isn't a job you can do on your own, but that's still better than the cost of a new(er) car.

That was a non-girdled gen 3 block with LNF pistons, a ported head(with 82# valve springs), neutral balance shafts, and stage 1 cams...

By all means, if you find a low mile stock LSJ(for a couple hundred) let me know, I'll drive down, buy you a case of beer, and we will do the work of swapping them... Cheapest stock LSJ I found was $1600...LE5s and L61s are a dime a dozen though... If I had a base model(or if anything happens to my Malibu), I would be set for a total of around $350

Why LNF pistons?
Ported head, springs, cams, very nice.
Neutral balance shafts, ehh, a full delete would be better.

If anything happens to your Malibu, a case of beer will get you a l61. Oh, and some sweat helping me pull the thing without a hoist.....It was so much fun last time I did that.

Ill watch for a motor for yuh. I saw one in texas for 250, earlier. But he is probably 5-6 hours from me.
Why not just get a l61 short block, and swap the pistons and rods?

Only Malibu financial sense it makes....
Extra funds in the bank must they go..

How about this:
Derf, you buy his Redline. Ill trade you a short block for some beer.
Build it. Over boost it. Have fun.
Bones wallet is good then....Which just means your cursed with #ionproblems #redlineownership
You need something to fill the extra spot in the driveway, anyway.
Then youll understand why boost is addicting.

Easy man, no money is gonna be spent until the Malibu is paid off...
That was the agreement with my wife...

The Gen3 block comes with LNF pistons unless you opt for the fully forged Wiseco piston/ZZP rod combo... As far as I'm aware, a BS delete requires an electric water pump, yes?

As far as a short block, I could pick up a nice L61/LE5 short block for around $400, and rebuild it for another $1000, but then I would have to get a custom clutch/flywheel to run the LE5 crank with my F35 trans... Then, there is the possibility of me doing something wrong and having to spend all the money again... Plus, I'm not too sure my head isn't damaged... Last I knew, oil was getting into cyl3, covering the plug...

If you can find a good low mile LSJ local to you, I would be happy to pay you back... It will have to happen after tax time though, as that's when the Malibu is most likely to be paid off...

So, here's a current pic of the IRL, as it sits in the driveway...

The picture struck me as beautiful, yet saddening at the same time... I really miss being able to drive it anytime I wanted... Right now, I have to be judicious in my choosing when to drive the car... Mostly under the cover of darkness... It runs well enough to still move quickly(last time I drove it I was up around 150km/h), but I'm not sure what's happened with compression since I've been running e engine treatment...
