Then "everything" does not work.

Need a bit more detail.

For example

1) 07 into 08 or 08 into 07?
2) BOTH 3.5's?
3) Do you have fuel at the rail?
4) Injectors letting fuel into cylinders? Could be no spark no fuel condition with injectors inhibited. Need to know.
5) Any codes? Please post as Pxxxx x's are numbers (or Bxxxx, Uxxxx, Cxxxx)
6) Security tripped? Many cars shout off fuel and spark. Not personally familiar with Auras in this respect.
7) Did you reconnect the CKP? How about the CMPs?

Welcome to the forum.
Happy to help you.

But we don't play 20 questions like above.

Please provide the background what you've done, why, what you've checked, the results, and where things stand now so we can try to provide guidance.

Haven't a chance otherwise.

Thanks.

They are not plug and play, I do not know why. 2008 and 2009 are plug and play. 2007 is a one year engine. Probably something painful like the crank trigger tone ring. There is probably much more information available on the G6 or Malibu pages.

Default 08 into 07 Aura engine 3.5L V6

08 into 07 Aura I have everything but spark. What do I do to make this run? New coil pack, new wires, plugs, fuels good security not an issue. Cular turns over but does not fire. Positive there's no sspark. Have the same issue with GMC envoy that I put 05 into 08.

Aura to aura or is the engine out of something else? It looks like the castings are the same for both years if they are both Saturn engines. So unless there is a bolt on reluctor and they are different it should fire with all the original sensors for the car. Just use the long block. I am putting a 2007 ecotec into my 2002 Saturn, I have to tear the engine apart and change the reluctor for the crank trigger to make mine work.

Default 08 into 07 Aura engine 3.5L V6

It is aura to aura 08 to 07 the one difference I found was the oil pan had a sensor on the 07 not on the 08 that was installed. I've had no experience doing an engine before but I did video myself and watched to put everything back properly. I believe I did an excellent job for my first time one!! Not bragging just surprised myself!!

Had the same issue when I hired a guy to do an 08 envoy took 05 engine and put it in 08 but it wouldn't fire either? No clue what to do with this one.

The 3.5 had an early version up to and including 07 and it has a 24x reluctor wheel for the crank sensor the late 3.5 and 3.9 has a 58x reluctor wheel. I bet that is your issue. Do you still have the original engine? If so count the teeth on the reluctor should be 58. You might be able to remove the crank sensor and count the teeth on the reluctor. If it is 24 you are going to have to pull it back out and get the correct engine. I hope I’m wrong but look online at rebuilders sites that deal with engine changes.

Suddenly I hear crickets chirping. I'm glad I don't work on cars other than my own. I'm done with all that. Except my sons car. I will always help him.

I looked up and they use identical crank sensors. Which of course says nothing other than that use identical crank sensors. Same one can count different number of teeth going by.

The above being said, could he not possibly try the 2008 ECM which should understand the crank signal for what it is supposed to be, whereas the 07 ECM sees tire number of teeth signal as garbage and is inhibiting spark?

Wonder if he remembered to marry the ECM to the BCM

This happens occasionally with the L61 swaps. The non vvt engines use different reluctors the year break is 05/06 I think. I am going to put an 07 into my 02 but there is a vendor that makes a custom reluctor. This way you can use the 2.4L engine in an early car also.
