Default ECM Swap

I have two Saturn Astras. One runs with a bad motor. The other one does not run because the key wouldnt turn and the part that connects the ignition to the CIM broke. So it's an immobilizer issue now. So, my options were to swap motors to the black car or swap everything that relates to the immobilizer to the blue car ( this was my thought anyway). i opted to swap all the parts that I thought would trigger the immobilizer to the blue car. In my mind, if i swapped the ECM, the ignition cylinder and housing, the CIM/clockspring that even though i would have to get the other parts programmed to it. at leat it would start and i could drive it to the dealership which is really far away from where i live (farther than is reasonably feasible for me to pay a tow truck to take there) But, lo and behold, that didn't work. So now im thinking maybe i need to change out the cluster as well and possibly the infotainment display in the center? Will that make the car happy? What am i missing? There were also wires that connected the CIM to somewhere under the hood that i thought maybe i needed to also swap. And just for information, all these parts i have replaced have all come from my other astra which was starting and running right before I swapped them. Is this a good solution to this problem or should i have just done the motor swap to the other car?

I know nothing about an Astra but you are dealing with security issues and a security relearn is most likely the only solution. Charm.il may have the security relearn procedure you need. You may need to change other modules to make it work.
And yes the engine swap would have been much easier.

Hopefully the security relearn Will get you up and running.

I would have suggest that you join an Astra only forum. The amount of knowledge there is far superior to that on our forum.
Trying to help you, not get rid of you.

Please stop back and let us know if you get it solved.

Where might I find an Astra only forum?

https://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/forums/astra-h.10/

https://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co...-cars-area.83/

Since the Astra is very similar to the opel astra and is offered in Europe by GM as a Vauxhall, both of these forums are hosted in the uk.

I'm sure there are more. Folks please chime in if you know of others specifically for the Astra.

"The Bev" 😁
Well I'm stopping back by to give you an update: So I decided to just keep going with swapping the parts since I'd already started. So in addition to moving the ECM, the CIM, the ignition housing, and the lock cylinder, I then swapped the radio, the cluster, the LCD screen... And checking to see if the car would start after each part I put in. It did not start at this point. I only had two more parts I was gonna try, the under hood fuse panel and the rear fuse panel. When I changed the fuse panel, IT WORKED!! The car started right up like it had never had an issue in its life!! A quarter tank of 2½ year old gas fired right up no problem. No more flashing security light. I AM THRILLED! I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY CAR WAS RUNNING!! VERY GOOD DAY FOR ME TODAY!! I will say that I read in the service manual that if there are 2 more parts that are returning an unmatched code to the ECM upon start up that it will disengage startup. So I'm not sure if it was exactly these parts that needed to be hooked up or I finally got to the point where I was 2 or less parts unmatched. Since then, I have also swapped the rear fuse panel. The only thing I noticed is that the traction control is stuck on OFF. And the mileage is obviously indicating that of my other car, which says 126,000 miles instead of 21,000 miles, but it doesn't matter as I will never sell it so I'll just keep track of the mileage in a log book. And the cluster lights illuminate when I open the door of the car, but after I start the car and drive the whole cluster is dark. So I'll have to investigate that further. But for now, my car runs!! 😁😁

Thanks so much for the support and advice! Hope this helps someone in the future!

Congratulations. I have to admit that is NOT the way I would have gone. I'd have taken the easy way and just done the engine swap. You are an inspiration to others of us! Keep it going.
