Poor mpg for a 2002 SC1
Hi, I recently purchased a 2002 Saturn SC1, three door. The car has 120,000 miles on it, however it seems to be pretty solid.
The problem: The car is getting 16 mpg, (around town) I took it to my mechanic-to see if he could see what might be the problem, mechanic said it was never tuned up-and that would help increase mpg. Just filled today.... mpg is the same.
Specs say it should get 26 mpg. I sunk $400.00 to find out it wasn't a tune up that would correct the problem.
Anybody out there have any clues as to why it is getting such poor milage.
Thanks,
Rod

Well, you are right that 16mpg is a poor showing for this car, but if you drive like you were in the LeMans race, it could happen. I'm assuming you went to a "Saturn savvy" mechanic for your tune-up, but just to be sure, swing by your local AutoZone (or equivilent) and have them read the computer codes. Not saying the guy did shoddy work, but things DO get missed sometimes........
