Default How many bulbs/what type required to completely re-bulb 97 SC2 dash (2nd gen)

I know there are a bunch of 161's in there.
Also see 74's, PC118, PC160, and an AC Delco L74.

Anyone know required quantities of each?

It's now my DD, so I want to do it all at once instead of finding out I'm missing stuff once I open er up.

anyone w a 2nd gen FSM should be able to help

Thanks

There appear to be 4 options for the background lighting on your car. They are pc160, pc118, 161 and 74.
The high beam, turn, seat belt, parking brake and the cel all take # 74.
This is according to the Napa pro link catalog.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Thanks guys. It's the array of general lighting of unknown origin/direction that concerns me the most.

Also, for those who have done it, have you found any one brand to be more durable than the other?

I'm down about 5 bulbs but now it's starting to annoy me since I can't see the odometer at night anymore. Whatever brand Saturn put in was pretty durable. I'm sure the filaments on new bulbs today are 1/2 as shock proof.....

I thought I saved a link to a wiring diagram to Saturn instrument panels, because I wanted to replace the bulbs in my IP too. Guess I forgot to. I found this guy JungleKing007 on YouTube swapping his bulbs out for LEDs. Dunno if this will help you, Derf.

Thanks, 44. I'll see what he's up to.

To me, why replace incandescent bulbs on a 90's sub $20K car's IP?
The warm yellow glow of the tiny incandescents is part of the S car experience.
If you want more light from the IP, weld a mag-lite behind it (incandescent, not LED).

jk, I know everyone has their own styles and tastes, but to me, the original warm glow of all the IP, dash, center console fits together as a unit. Just enough to see, not enough to blind.

I agree. Going the LED route is probably overkill and not so much an improvement. My brother's car has an LED IP and he can't dim it enough to be comfortable for his eyes. Then again, Hyundai went with blue lighting and blue light at night really strains your eyes.

I think this kid saw LED technology as "more shiny and new=better" over incandescent bulbs. I'm sure going with regular bulbs would have cost half as much. And in reality, if bulbs have lasted this long in the car, it's reasonable to assume the replacements will last just as long. So this will probably be the only time you'll replace them in the lifetime of the car.

Hope it helps a little! Good luck!
