Im looking into taking the fire blanket off the underside of my hood and spraying the hood with 1200 degree paint to keep the hood from getting hot is this a good idea? or will it ruin the paint like i have heard happenes if you just take it off

Nothing will happen to the hood if you take the insulator off. It not even an instuation agianst heat. No need to paint it with hight temp paint either. The underhood temperature dont reach anywhere near the temperatures needed to damage the paint. The underside of the hood gets no hotter than the outside on a hot summer day with the sun beating down on it.

In fact, some models didnt come with the insulator. Take a look under the hood of some base model S-Series.
