Engine swap
#1
I recently bought a ''96 SC1 automatic for $250. The car''s in really nice shape but the motor is bad. I found, what I think, istwogood deals on craigslist for a motor and tranny. One wants $500 for an ''02 with 95,000 on it and the other is a ''00 that he wants $300 for(I don''t know the miles yet). Both are single camautomatics. I''m wondering if they''ll fit inmy coupe. We own a ''96 SL2 that we''ve really enjoyed and hope to get this one going soon. Thanks for any info!!

Thanks for the reply. I called the $300 and it only has 68k on it so I''m going to buy it this weekend. I thought I''d put the engine/tranny in as a unit and keep the original engine/tranny forparts. When I remove the engine/transmission as one unit can they be removed through the top or do they have to go out the bottom? Thanks!

They can be removed either way. But through the top is easier.
I also HIGHLY recommend agianst using the other cars transmission. You are just asking for a whole new set of problems. Saturn automatic transmissions are problematic if not maintained properly. And sadly, thats the majority of them. That and the possible incompability problems. Saturn lists the year ranges for the SOHC equipped automatic as 1995-1997 to be compatable with your car.
