Bought new in June 1999

• In Chicago area 1999–2006; then in Omaha
• Turned over 100,000 miles late 2023
• Engine condition good; all original parts except portion of right side mirror, and one or two recently replaced parts
• Body fair; No accidents*, No crashes, but keyed 2–3 times
• All hubcaps present; three of the four are in good shape
• Undercarriage: Rusted. Axles at risk

(*Except: recently backed into a pole in parking lot: first and only fender damage.)

I’m the first and only owner, and the Only driver. It’s run well these 25 years, with only a few issues and No crashes. The issue is undercarriage rust, probably responsible for the broken axles. The engine was fine as of mid-February 2024, but I haven’t driven it since then. I Don’t want to sell, but am resigned to it. The rust/axles are beyond me.

I am posting on this site in case anyone might have use for this car, for parts or to fix (if that is possible). It really goes against the grain to scrap this car, which has been a real trouper its entire life.

Go in, edit your post by clicking once on the same line as your pictures but right after the picture. Then hit backspace. This should delete the picture from your message. Delete them all and press save. Now go back into edit, but the cursor wherever you want to add the pictures, and add all of them at once the way you added them to the previous message. Make sure you subtitle them the way you did so people will know what they're looking at.

Considering where you live, not surprised at the subframe rust on the driver's side. It's served you well.

Many Saturns have been parted out over the years to keep other Saturns on the road. No shame in that

Thanks, too, for the extra information and comments. I had it in mind that someone might be interested in a part from the car, rather than the car itself. I wasn’t sure if I should mention that option; the posts from metalman resonated with me.

I was thinking of leaving my post up for one or two weeks, to give more people a chance to see it. If there is no response, I will likely go the salvage route. I’ll feel better about salvage, for having tried the car/parts sale option.

It’s too bad about the SaturnFans site, though. I imagine some person, unknown to me, who was part of that forum, and would be interested in my car (or some part of it), but didn’t switch over to this site soon enough. Or didn’t check the posts regularly enough. Hmm. I never worried about things like that until I started scouring eBay for vintage crochet hooks. The Internet Age is too busy!

Used to keep this site cleaner and junk all the old classifieds, ban the users with less than 7 posts and no activity, just to know how many active members we had.
Then i realized there were more impt things in life life.

It'll be up until the next time I get possed off enough to clean house -- or you take it down.

The sad part is the people buying s cars today are 5th and sixth owners who will destroy them in a year b/c/ no one told them to check the oil.
And thy are likely too young to understand how to socially interact on a web forum, cause it's not one on one.

Nor does the concept of a car forum exist to most - even the older folks.

My point is many people who need the parts will never see your post.

Consider trying to sell it to a local independent mechanic as a Saturn parts car. Strange but true.

 

It's unfortunate that there's so much rust on the underside. That's really not a lot of miles and it's a nice looking body. GLWTS

 

Oh, don’t I Know It!! (Almost everything from “The sad part” onward. AND about “more important things in life)!)

I do know a Very Good repair shop, and I’m going to take your advice. (They took the unnervingly clear photos of the undercarriage.) Interestingly, one of the two owners drives a Saturn; an Ion, I think. They might be interested, and it’s worth asking.

Another option is the Saturn lovers’ group on Facebook. I think that might bring my post much wider access. But I am EXTREMELY resistant to going on Facebook for ANY reason. I will check if a friend will agree to post it for me.

Anyway, one way or another I will find a place for my Saturn. My goal is to be able to look back without regretting not trying.

Good luck with the sale is exactly what I meant. And I'm in total agreement with you about Fakebook. As a matter of fact, I don't have any contact with social media platforms except for the various car forums I'm on. I came into this world without a trace and that's the way I HOPE to leave it.
