Default Why

Do people join a web site and add a list of numbers to the username? Do they really think there is going to be 8496 Freds, as in Fred8496.

I'm going to hazard an opinion here --> and it's simply that, an opinion <--

Lots of people utilize their first name (for example, Fred) as a logon name. When you get thousands upon thousands out there using sites like AOL, Yahoo, and the like, there's obviously more than one Fred there, so they (AOL or Yahoo) start counting. Once that logon name is established, the user carries it along to whatever site they may frequent. As for the large number, it may be the house number, part of their social security number (heaven forbid), part of their phone number or even their ZIP code.

To plagerize a common southern saying --> " There ya go".

Actually I agree with ocean, thats what I did for years (I would put 12003 at the end of my usernames) yahoo gave me the suggestion when making an account (in 2003) and I stuck with it for years until I changed up (like here for instance)

OK, then I have to ask. If thats the case for so many users, why doesn't the e-mail account match the users that sign up on this site? Just a thought.

My wife has the zipcode after her name, and I don't get why.

I first joined a motorcycle site and there were a lot of trikes, so I added the year of mine (still building it), which is 1946, at least the frame is. Then when I joined a Ford site so I could keep my truck running I just kept it. When I joined the Patriot Guard Riders I kept the same thing. And here I did the same thing. Since I have friends that use some of the same sites we all kept the same names so we could recognize each other easily. We just change passwords. I use email for business reasons a lot so I use my name with a number 1 after it. Without a number included they would not let me use the name.
