Tractor and water pump repair

This is a three day weekend for me now that we have delivered 8 new bucket trucks to our crews. Friday I got the call all counrty folk hate to get: there is no water! I had taken a shower in the morning before work so I suspected our shallow well pump had finally given up the ghost. My wife and daughter said the pump just hummed and pumped no water. So a trip to the pump place and a stop at Home Depot for misc. pipe and some needed upgrades. And only two trips to town on Saturday we have water again.

There went just under $1000 sure glad I can do this myself.
I have a 1995 Massey Ferguson 1210 4x4 compact tractor and the original clutch is finally out of adjustment. Which means I have free pedal and the cluch slips so it is time for some major repair. You think replacing a clutch in a car ia a pain you should work on tractors. The engine is structural in a tractor they do not have a frame like a truck. To replace the clutch you have to split the tractor. My little tractor has a front end loader so there is a frame that comes with the loader to transfer load to the complete tractor. Here are a few pictures of where I am now, I am still removing the bellhousing. I have a nice shop but no heat and we got our first snow of the winter last night.

Now that I have the bellhousing off I have discovered that I purchased the incorrect clutch disc. See the above picture for the incorrect clutch! My Massey Ferguson 1210 has 13 splines not 10 splines. The clutch is only 7 and 1/4” od but it looks like a 20 lb flywheel maybe more. The tractor is only an 18 hp 3 cylinder Diesel NA. The local tractor repair shop and wrecking yard will send my disc to the clutch shop in Portland for a reline. Under $100 and back in business. Done for today it is cold in the shop and we have a nice fire going in the wood stove in the house.

I hated working on tractors. Back in 1975 when I was in Vo-Tech school, the local International Harvester shop needed help. Since I was a good student, my instructor asked me to take a leave of absence and go work for them. I worked there for two weeks and got a 50 cent an hour pay raise because the boss liked what I was doing. By the time my 12 weeks was up, I was up $1.50 an hour and turning out some good work. Mr. Sanders hated to let me go to return to the school. He wanted to hire me after I got my certificate, but I opted to go to college instead. I DID NOT want to work as a tractor mechanic after that 12 weeks of doing it.

At least this gets used as a construction tractor not a barn cleanout tractor so it is only 3/4 minus rock and dust. You know what I mean, I hate working on our trucks when they have been fixing power at dairies.

Is that because they have a certain "air" about them, Andy? LOL

The last two weekends have been this project. It is 15x40 and I still need to finish. Today I got the plastic secured. It is over 6 raised beds and will allow a longer growing season.

Awesome! I could grow a LOT of Beefstake tomatoes in there!
