I'd like to meet the rotten sum beech engineer that came up with the design for the bolts that hold the seat to the floor in the Saturns. I want to punch him in the face and give him a swift kick to the gonads too. I can't get the bolts out of mine to give the interior a good cleaning because some idiot apparently tried to remove them without the proper tool and stripped the heads off every frigging one on them. What's wrong with just using a regular hex head bolt? Rant over, resume what you were doing.

Not only have cars become far more complicated, the tools to work on them are made out of unobtainium.

I just had the drivers and back seat out of mine to get them re-upholstered, Carvell brought them by the house and we put them back in using tools from my tool box. I'll be darned (today anyway) if I can even remember what size wrench was required to install them with but it was not hard to do. So I must have had the right one in my tools.
And yes when some one buggers things up with the wrong tool the stress level increases by an order of magnitude. I had that problem when I took apart the Mercury Marine engine I bought in Florida and brought home to use. While the engine itself was very low mileage or hours and showed no wear it had been apart and I found bolt heads buggered on the bolts that hold the windage tray and also act as securing hardware for the four bolt main bearing blocks. I played bloody blue blazes at the local GM dealer (Chevrolet) trying to order the right replacement bolts. I did after a frustrating time with the parts desk but did get them eventually. And all it took was to use the proper size socket to get it done. And it was not used. I also had to replace threads in the bolt holes used to fasten the intake down with.
