pretty dark....will google momentarily
deathcore? kinda raspy for me, though i love Janis Joplin, so go figure..... |
Yeah, I googled the song... It's alright, but not quite suited to my taste...
|
That's what I listen to dailyy
|
It seems my tastes lean toward the lighter side of metal...

"Some have said that I'm the Devil and it's just as well 'Cause I've been through and burned down and rebuilt Hell With my heart in a vice and a knife in my back, I've got a noose for the world that I'm painting black" |
sounds like the Charlie Daniels Band, but can't pin down the song.....
|
Its from the bands newest CD. The singer has a heart for old school rock n roll, so wanted to go in that direction compared to the insane screaming he was doing in his first 2 albums.

Screaming deathcore metal is pretty near the boundary...until someone else comes along and expands the horizon. Everything is relative---and that relative-ness changes with time as new musical styles emerge....... |
so this is the old singer's last album or the new singer's first album w the band?
Reminiscent of Five Finger Death Punch, but more melodic. I like it. |
The last album with the band. He left to start a more rock style band, with one of Sebastian bachs guitarist.
I like all their music. Just that last album was more emotional for all them as they were growing not only as musicians, but maturing as people. |
I have not heard any of their earlier work, but you can hear that "tightness" that comes into a band's music when they start to mature musically. The songs are often a bit more complex musically, yet at the same time more simple. Not many bands can make that transition, survive the backlash from their original fans, the usual "WTF is this" from the press, and retain their confidence to continue on that path.
It's a shame their lead singer left, as that exact chemistry will never be there again. That does not spell death for them -- it just spells a little difference in sound and perhaps a tweak in direction. But if the rest of the band wants to continue in the same direction, they will find a new lead singer (or have already found one) that shares their vision of the future--whatever it may be. You don't need three octave vocal runs and crazy over the top guitar solos to sound good musically. It's about matching the lyrics to the music and creating a single entity that conveys meaning to the listener. That's this guy's opinion anyway..... |
Here's another, shorter quote:
We will not take this anymore, These words will never be ignored... You want a battle? HERE'S a WAR! |
Here's a quote I just can't get out of my head; it has a pretty solid meaning, very righteous...
"Bonestock-25" Tell me now, who taught you how to hate? Because it isn't in your blood Not a part of what you're made So let this be understood Somebody taught you how to hate When you live this way, you become Dead to everyone |
Oh, dear mother, I love you I'm sorry, I wasn't good enough Dear father, forgive me 'Cause in your eyes, I just never added up In my heart I know I failed you, but you left me here alone If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything. Oh, dear brother, just don't hate me For never standing by you or being by your side Dear sister, please don't blame me I only did what I thought was truly right It's a long and lonely road, when you know you walk alone If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything. I feel like running away I'm still so far from home You say that I'll never change But what the **** do you know? I'll burn it all to the ground before I let you in Please forgive me, I can't forgive you now. I remember everything. If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? 'Cause I remember everything. If I could help you forget, would you take my regrets? 'Cause I remember everything. It all went by so fast I still can't change the past I always will remember everything If we could start again, Would that have changed the end? We remember everything, everything. |

Ain't seen a night Things work out right Go by Things on my mind And I just don't have the time And it don't seem right Ain't seen a day That I don't hear people say They know they're gonna die Now, this may seem a little bit crazy But I don't think you should be so lazy If you think you've heard this before Well, stick around I'm gonna tell you more One just like the other Sin's a good man's brother But is that right? You tell me that I don't Then I say I won't But then I might You said this is the way it's supposed to be But it just don't seem right to me And that's outta sight Some folks need an education Don't give up or we'll lose the nation You say we need a revolution It seems to be the only solution |

If you see something that looks like a star And it's shooting up out of the ground And your head is spinning from a loud guitar And you just can't escape from the sound Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you We were children once, playing with toys And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of The low spark of high-heeled boys The percentage you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest, was The low spark of high-heeled boys If you had just a minute to breathe And they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance? Or something sim'lar as this? Don't worry too much It'll happen to you As sure as your sorrows are joys And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound of The low spark of high-heeled boys The percentage you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest, was The low spark of high-heeled boys (heeled boys) If I gave you everything that I owned And asked for nothing in return Would you do the same for me as I would for you? Or take me for a ride And strip me of everything, including my pride But spirit is something that no one destroys And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound The low spark of high-heeled boys (heeled boys) |

You declared you would be three inches taller You only became what we made you. Thought you were chasing a destiny calling You only earned what we gave you. You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever, But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun. And the colours of the sea bind your eyes with trembling mermaids, And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses, How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing, For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips. And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise, And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea. And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body, Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind. The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter. Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell, And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands With tales of brave Ulysses, how his naked ears were tortured By the sirens sweetly singing. The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers, And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter. |
Don't cry to me. If you loved me, You would be here with me. You want me, Come find me. Make up your mind. Should I let you fall? Lose it all? So maybe you can remember yourself. Can't keep believing, We're only deceiving ourselves . And I'm sick of the lie, And you're too late. Don't cry to me. If you loved me, You would be here with me. You want me, Come find me. Make up your mind. Couldn't take the blame. Sick with shame. Must be exhausting to lose your own game. Selfishly hated, No wonder you're jaded. You can't play the victim this time, And you're too late. Don't cry to me. If you loved me, You would be here with me. You want me, Come find me. Make up your mind. You never call me when you're sober. You only want it cause it's over, It's over. How could I have burned paradise? How could I - you were never mine. So don't cry to me. If you loved me, You would be here with me. Don't lie to me, Just get your things. I've made up your mind. |
Help me, Mary, please I've lost my home to thieves They bully the stereo and drink They leave suspicious stains in the sink They make rude remarks about me They wonder just how wild I would be As they egg me on and keep me mad They play me like a pit bull in a basement, and for that... I lock my door at night I keep my mouth shut tight I practice all my moves I memorize their stupid rules I make myself their friend I'll show them just how far I can bend As they egg me on and keep me mad They play me like a pit bull in a basement, and for that... I'm asking you, Mary, please Temper my hatred with peace Weave my disgust into fame And watch how fast they run to the flame |
I'm a fleabit peanut monkey All my friends are junkies That's not really true I'm a cold Italian pizza I could use a lemon squeezer Would you do? But I've been bit and I've been tossed around By every she-rat in this town Have you, babe? Well, I am just a monkey man I'm glad you are a monkey woman too I was bitten by a boar I was gouged and I was gored But I pulled it on through Yes, I'm a sack of broken eggs I always have an unmade bed Don't you? Well, I hope we're not too messianic Or a trifle too satanic We love to play the blues Well I am just a monkey man I'm glad you are a monkey, monkey woman too, babe I'm a monkey I'm a monkey I'm a monkey man I'm a monkey man I'm a monkey... |

I met a man locked away, for things he hadn't done. Innocence on ball and chain. He'll never feel the sun Again on his face, or roses in his hands. but when he smiled at me, I could understand. If you're free you'll never see the walls. If your head is clear you'll never free fall. If you're right you'll never fear the wrong. If your head is high you'll never fear at all. There was a daughter of a man, who took his life too young; She swore she'd never do the same, Then did just what he'd done. And a boy who's gone insane, heard Voices in his head; No one knows what they say, now his mother's dead. If you're free you'll never see the walls. If your head is clear you'll never free fall. If you're right you'll never fear the wrong. If your head is high you'll never fear at all. There was a man who had a face, that looked a lot like me. I saw him in the mirror and, I fought him in the street; Then when he turned away, I shot him in the head. Then I came to realize, I had killed myself. If you're free you'll never see the walls. If your head is clear you'll never free fall. If you're right you'll never fear the wrong. If your head is high you'll never fear... |
Derf-210 is Dream On, by Aerosmith...
Glad to see this thread revived, haven't seen it in a while |
Oooh I like this.
Derf, Im pretty sure the one on the last page was Evanescence. My turn! My turn! Since my ipod is always on shuffle, I was reminded of this song the other day. Old favorite. Guess away Octavious - 1 There are things I never get to say The fear in me always in the way A broken heart never mended A hurt I can never forget A little pearl Locked in a shell Can not explain Each breath I'm taking Can not find the means to an end To move create one liberated moment Beauty hides in the deep Beauty hides in the deep But it's so hard to find Being wrapped up inside |
OH, I totally forgot about this thread... I haven't got any new lyrics to share, but I'll gladly throw a Phoenix Down and revive it again...(Final Fantasy reference)
|
Well folks, there's a ton of posted unsolved lyrics --let's get to work!
And I can generate a few ;) although nobody seems to guess at them. Part of the fun in this is the wide age spectrum of the forum. Young guys posting new genres, middle aged guys posting classic rock, grunge, alternative instead of the crap they grew up with. And Octavious, you were correct about Evanescence. Rube -- please consider rejoining the quest..... |
Okay, derf. I can't figure out any of the obscure stuff you're listening to! LOL I DID recognize Dream On, of course, but that's main stream rock. Try this one. It's just the first two verses, not the entire song.
I hear you're driving someone else's car now She said you came and took your stuff away All the poetry, and the trunk you kept your life in I knew that it would come to that someday Like a sad hallucination When I opened up my eyes The train had passed the station And you were trapped inside Yet I never wonder where you went I only wonder why, I wonder why |
You got me on that one, but I recognized the band name......after googling it
Anyone else have a clue? |
Post #135 -- Remember Everything -- Five Finger Death Punch
Derf 93.3---Sin's A Good Man's Brother -- Grand Funk Railroad Derf 54 -- The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys -- Traffic Derf# whatever -- The Punk and the Godfather -- The Who Derf# whatever +1 -- Tales of Brave Ulysses -- Cream Post #141 Help Me Mary -- Liz Phair Post #142 Monkey Man -- The Rolling Stones Derf #210 Aerosmith -- Dream On Derf#0 Audioslave -- Exploder 6 of them were by mainstream "classic" rock bands. Liz Phair song from the 1993 Album Exile in Guyville. A lot of acoustic guitar w minimal bass and drum. Music is somewhat calming but the lyrics get pretty vicious. An unknown, the album was self recorded in different rooms in her apartment to get the acoustics she wanted for the songs. Her second album sucked. Audioslave was a band formed by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) and the leftovers of Rage Against The Machine. Good hard edge. |
You left me here on your way to paradise
And you pulled the rug right out from under my life I know where you goin' to, I knew when you came home last night 'Cause your eyes had a mist from the smoke of a distant fire Lord, I was stunned, shoulda seen it come a long time ago When I realized, the reality gave me a roll If things are the same, then explain why your kiss is so cold And that mist in your eyes feels like rain on the fire in my soul This lyin' and cryin' is upsettin' and gettin' nowhere It don't stack up, so slack up, then pack up, I just don't care Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out Don't you drown when your dreamboat runs onto the ground I'd just like to know, do you love him or just makin' time By filling his glass with your fast-flowing bittersweet lime You'll face the aftertaste when you come home late some night With your eyes all a-mist from the smoke of a distant fire Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire (Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire) Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire (Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire) Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire (Mist in your eyes from a distant fire) Girl, your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a dis A distant fire |

Derf 44 Twenty-five years and my life is still Trying to get up that great big hill of hope For a destination I realized quickly when I knew I should That the world was made up of this brotherhood of man For whatever that means And so I cry sometimes When I'm lying in bed Just to get it all out What's in my head And I, I am feeling a little peculiar And so I wake in the morning And I step outside And I take a deep breath and I get real high And I scream from the top of my lungs What's going on? And I say, hey yeah yeah hey hey yeah yeah I said hey, what's going on? And I say, hey yeah yeah hey hey yeah yeah I said hey, what's going on? Ooh, ooh ooh And I try, oh my god do I try I try all the time In this institution And I pray, oh my god do I pray I pray every single day For a revolution And so I cry sometimes When I'm lying in bed Just to get it all out What's in my head And I, I am feeling a little peculiar And so I wake in the morning And I step outside And I take a deep breath and I get real high And I scream from the top of my lungs What's going on? And I say, hey yeah yeah hey hey yeah yeah I said hey, what's going on? And I say, hey yeah yeah hey hey yeah yeah I said hey, what's going on? Damn, I know that tune. Haven't heard it in years and can't recall who sings it. Yet. Gimme a few days.

Here's one EVERYBODY knows. Great tune.
How long has this been going on? How long has this been going on? Well, your friends with their fancy persuasion Don't admit that it's part of a scheme But I can't help but have my suspicion 'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem And you said you was never intending To break up our scene this way But there ain't any use in pretending It could happen to us any day How long has this been going on? How long has this been going on? Oh, your friends with their fancy persuasion Don't admit that it's part of a scheme But I can't help but have my suspicion 'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem Oh, you said you was never intending To break up our scene this way But there ain't any use in pretending It could happen to us any day And how long has this been going on? How long has this been going on? How long? How long has this been going on? How long? How long has this been going on? How long? How long has this been going on?
