A neat little game...
So, I'm a little bored, and I spend hours upon hours inside my head at work, and oftentimes, a musical lyric gets trapped in there...
I figured I would share them as they repeat in my head, you guys feel free to guess the song and/ or post your own lyrics... All genres welcome... Lately, I've had this stuck in my head... In the dark with the music on Wishing i was someone else Taking all your anger out on me I'd rather rot alone, Than spend a minute with you, I'm gone, I'm gone... And you can't stop me from falling apart, Cause my self destruction is all your fault! |
damn this is the thread for me...you've uncaged a monster....
Let's set some ground rules, shall we? add any along the way that make sense Rule #1: This game is about expressing ourselves through the words of others. Be respectful of fellow members at all times. Rule #2: Guess with no googling OR google to explore, but don't post the answer (ruins it for the rest of us) Rule# 3- NO VIDEO, it takes all the imagination out of guessing Rule #4: Label each of your lyrics postings with your username and a sequential number so that those guessing can easily specify which lyrics they are guessing at. Rule #5: Once the artist of your posted lyrics is correctly solved, please edit the post containing the lyrics as SOLVED---{name of artist} at the bottom of the post so that new people don't keep posting guesses Hats off to Bonestock for stepping up to the plate to get this rolling. Bones --- hope you don't mind me laying down the ground rules in writing. They're quite obvious and it'd be no fun if people just googled everything to look musically diverse....Let's get it on (Marvin Gaye)! |
Derf #1
Lyrics: Mile after mile Stone after stone Turn to speak but you're alone Million mile from home you're on your own So let me in from the cold Turn my lead into gold Cause there's chill wind blowing in my soul And I think I'm growing old |
Actually the lyrics in your sig inspired me to make this thread, but the purpose is just to express the lyrics... It will also reveal our musical tastes somewhat...
Rule#3- NO VIDEO, it takes all the imagination out of guessing... I would rather somebody google the lyrics and discover a new song they like, than just posting a link to the song and take out all the guesswork... |
Well, then.
I'm glad I have inspired someone musically around here. It's an important part of my life. I know that's not true for everyone and that's just fine with me. The lyrics in my sig are a reflection of my mood at that point in time or are from a band whose music and lyrics are filling my head. OK enough of that. Back to the game. How about Revised Rule #2: Guess with no googling OR google to explore, but don't guess because...well...it's obvious ________________________ Bones makes an excellent point -- this game is as much about what music you DO know as it is about what music you DON'T know. If you like something you see and don't know who it is -- hell go google it and then youtube it --- ya might just like it....expand your horizons |
Ohhhhh an 'earworm' thread of sorts.
Y'all got me, but I'm not the music trivia person in the household - that's DH. I will, however, have to think of something that may stump y'all. Age has it's privileges! |
You guys have got me stumped so far. I guess I'll join in. Here ya go.
I got the ways and means to New Orleans I'm going down to the river where it's warm and green I'm gonna have a drink and walk around I've got at lot to think about, oh yeah |
I am not able to guess any of yours, but here's a new set of lyrics...
"bonestock-2" Stay, cause you think you want me Pray, when you need advice Hey, keep your fingers off me, I'm tryin' to get through Blame all your weakness on me, Shame, that I'm so contrived Hey, keep your sickness off me Why can't I get through? |
ok, we're on a roll of stumping each other; bones, I can't get a bead on your timeframe other than guessing by your age (and that doesn't tie it down anyway); Rube -- you're an old fart but a sentimental one at that so I'll have to keep my ear to the grindstone.
May I propose Rule #4: Label each of your lyrics postings with your name and a sequential number. Like the one I'm about to post I will label as "Derf #2". Then when someone guesses, they guess "Derf #2 ---- xxxxx" since at this rate we'll all have multiple sets of lyrics posted and without implementing some sort of indexing system we won't know which set of lyrics is being guessed at when other folks join in at the beginning of the thread and we each already have 7 lyrics posted each...... |
Derf #2
All the love in the world Couldn't save you All the innocence inside You know I tried so hard to make you Oh, to make you change your mind And it hurts too much to see you And how you left yourself behind You know I wouldn't want to be you Now there's a hell I can't describe SOLVED: GUNS N' ROSES, "STREET OF DREAMS" |
Derf#2 is a Guns N Roses tune. Don't know the name, but I'm pretty sure it's guns n roses. What say you, derf?
Bonestock19......How could you, how could you, how could you hate me? I did a search and found yours. I like the tune. Do you want me to share what I found out or let the others wonder for a while? |
Here's another one for you guys. We'll call this one Rube #2, okay?
I should have known you'd bid me farewell There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well Now, I know you're not the only starfish in the sea If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me And I think it's gonna be alright Yeah, the worst is over now The morning sun is shining like........... |
Rube---Correct. Derf #2 = GnR. "Street of Dreams", from the grossly underrated Chinese Democracy album with the new lineup. It's a headphones album once you narrow it down to the 5 or 6 solid tunes on the album. So much going on yet it's not all smeared together. I'd love to know how they made so many layers of sound "transparent"....
____________________ Rube #2 sounds like Gordon Lightfootish stuff but not quite _________________ and no, if you google, do NOT post the answer -- that would be a violation of rule *2 (above) _____________ I'm revising my first post as new needed "rules" evolve so that they are all in one place for those who come along later.... |
Nope, #2 isn't Lightfoot. I'll give a hint, it's a tune from the late 60's. That's all I'm saying.
|
oh ---new "rule" to keep people from repeatedly guessing at solved lyrics---please post
SOLVED ---Name of song and NAME OF ARTIST at the BOTTOM of the original lyrics post |
Y'all, I suck at guessing, but I bet I can stump you. More important than the name of the song is the name of the band. Hint: oldie from a pretty well known southwest regional band, circa 1980 ish:
TNvikesfan #1 You shot the tv but you were aimin' at me I dodged and you missed by a mile. Our love failed the test now you're under arrest and I won't have to see you for a while. |
You've got me there, Ginny... It almost sounds country...CCR perhaps?
And, after two shifts at work, I have another set of lyrics... "bonestock-3" Drop the hourglass of time Spilling sand you will not find As we gather here today We bid farewell, The slave becomes the master... "bonestock- 4" When I first saw you standing there, you know Was a little hard not to stare So nervous when I drove you home, you know Being apart's a little hard to bear Sent some flowers to your work, in hopes That I'd have you in my arms again We kissed that night before I left, still now Something I could never forget You've got all that I need... |
Tnvikesfan #1 -- Garth Brooks ? -- " I've got friends in lowly places?" or something like that? I am pretty much ear deaf to country. Not because I don't respect it-- I do -- it's just not my general cup of tea.
|
If any of you post country, then you've got me. I can't stand country music. I worked in the industry back in 1980 and have NO respect for it at all.
|
Ok, y'all, yes the genre is country and this particular song is by chuck Wagon and the Wheels. They did some 'real' country as well as the humorous stuff. DH found a couple tapes and lined them in to the PC so now we have them converted to MP3s and can listen to them again!
For me, if it's not GOOD country or Classic Rock type, it's mostly off my radar. DH listens to a lot more varied stuff than I do. I do, however, enjoy some of Colt Ford's stuff. Go figure. |
oh Ginny Ginny Ginny,
Please don't give up the ghost after one guess --let us struggle a bit -- let us google it and expand our musical databases. And who solved bonestock #1 ? I don't see a post guessing it..... |
Keep up, derf. I found bonestocks first one. I didn't post the answer, but told him I knew it and asked if he wanted me to tell everyone else. I'm growing weary of this already. I won't post anymore or guess anymore. Y'all want to know what my two are, just ask me. I'll either post the answers here or send you a PM. What ever you prefer.
|
oh cmon dude, it's all for fun. I was the one who said pls don't post if you google it to find it-- that's why I was surprised when I noticed it was labeled "solved".
You and Ginny (who keeps referring to age) probably know more lyrics to more songs than he rest of us combined. Personally I was looking forward to a classic rock marathon with you and tnvikesfan, amongst other less focused lyrical explorations with the rest of the gang, as I listen to a pretty wide range of musical stuff. Please don't bail. |
Derf #3
As he came into the window It was the sound of a crescendo He came into her apartment He left the bloodstains on the carpet She ran underneath the table He could see she was unable So she ran into the bedroom She was struck down, it was her doom IGNORED: Micheal Jackson -- Smooth Criminal (YouTube the Video of the cover by Alien Ant Farm -- it's much better than the original) |
Ooh, that sounds dark... I might have to google it...
In all reality, I counted Rube's post as the closest thing to solved as it was gonna get, and after a while, I plan on revealing the songs anyway... But he did so something quite cool without knowing it... IF you googled the song(and liked it), post another lyric from it to let the OP know that you did... It's a good way to let everyone know, without giving it away... "Bonestock-5" She grew up in a Indiana town, Had a good lookin' mama, who never was around And she grew up tall, and she grew up right, With them Indiana boys on them Indiana nights Moved down here, at the age of eighteen, She blew the boys away, was more than they seen |
Bonestock -- nice choices for 1 & 2 -- had to google 'em though. Like the band for #2.
_______ Bonestock 3 Reeks of early Metallica from some Metallica song on some Metallica album I do not have but probably want. Are partial guesses like this allowed? Then poster can give feedback and the rest can pound away at the song if the band was guessed correctly....? ________________ Bonestock #4 --sounds like lyrics from a song about a guy leaving to go to war or into the military; has a 50's sound to it..... |
Derf #4
All the times That I've cried All this wasted It's all inside And I feel All this pain Stuffed it down It's back again And I lie Here in bed All alone I can't mend But I feel Tomorrow will be OK But I'm on the outside And I'm looking in I can see through you See your true colors 'Cause inside you're ugly You're ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you IGNORED: OUTSIDE: Staind |
Bonestock #5. I was introduced, we both started grooving. She said I really like ya, baby, but I gotta keep moving. On. Keep moving on.
Tom Petty, Last Dance with Mary Jane. No, I didn't google it. I'm a big Tom Petty fan. |
DAmn Rube. Nice. I LOVE that tune. I was logged on before he posted and well thereafter but never refreshed my page before I posted mine....snoozers losers. Good job.
Legend has it that after canvassing all the record companies with their demo tape (on which they) had spent every last dime they had), the last one they gave it to signed the band. The rest is history. Follow your passion--you'll either end up rich or flat broke. |
Well, my passion is my wife and cars. No wonder I have no money, right?
|

D on't think sorry's easily said Don't try turning tables instead You've taken lots of chances before But I ain't gonna give anymore, don't ask me That's how it goes Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin' Don't say words you're gonna regret Don't let fire rush to your head I've heard the accusation before And I ain't gotta take any more, believe me The sun in your eyes Made some of the lies worth believing |
Partial guesses are great. Encouraged, even!
My third lyric was, in fact, Metallica. I have every album of theirs(digitally). If I ever actually get this iPad backed up onto my wife's laptop, I could burn ya some... The fourth was not that old, but the video had a fifties feel... And I figured you guys would know the fifth by heart, lol... |
... And here's another lyric, because I loooove this game!
"Bonestock-6" Push you 'cross that line, Just stay down this time Hide in yourself, crawl in yourself, You'll have your time... God will make them pay, Take it back one day I'll end his day, I'll splatter... color... on this gray! Waiting on... |
well, then,
Derf#5 Out of the blue and into the black They give you this, but you pay for that And once you're gone, you can never come back When you're out of the blue and into the black. SOLVED Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse: Hey Hey, My My (Out of the Blue) |
Derf #6
They say that life's a carousel Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well The world is full of Kings and Queens Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams It's Heaven and Hell, oh well And they'll tell you black is really white The moon is just the sun at night And when you walk in golden halls You get to keep the gold that falls It's Heaven and Hell, oh no! Fool, fool! SOLVED: BLACK SABBATH --HEAVEN AND HELL |
Rube 4---
I KNOW those lyrics. At first it seemed like I could read your mind ---but guess not.... (Nice one) |
and why not?
Derf #7 Well this life that I've lead has took me everywhere There ain't no place I ain't never gone But its kind of like the saying that you heard so many times Well there just ain't no place like home Did you ever see a she-gator protect her young Or a fish in a river swimming free Did you ever see the beauty of the hills of Carolina Or the sweetness of the grass in Tennessee |
Derf #5. Neil Young--Hey Hey My My. I've got a LOT of his stuff. Love his writing and guitar playing. Not so much the vocals. I'm thinking #6 is Black Sabbath but not sure. #7, I don't have any idea.
|
Rube #4
Gen'rals gathered in their masses, Just like witches at black masses Evil minds that plot destruction, Sorcerer of death's construction In the fields the bodies burning, As the war machine keeps turning Death and hatred to mankind, Poisoning their brainwashed minds Oh Lord Yeah! |
Derf-6 is...
Heaven and Hell, performed my Black Sabbath, and later, Dio in his solo career... |
