That is a 5.4L Ford V8 3 valves per cylinder, introduced in 2005. The 2 valve version came out in 97 in the trucks. They also came as 4.6L starting in 91, I had one in a Lincoln Town Car.

Two smaller intake valves and one larger exhaust valve in the 5.4? I'm not trying to be a pain, I'm trying to learn from your experience. I've only had a couple of Ford products and that was back in the 80's I had a Ford Ranger with a V-6, 4WD and five speed manual. That was a good truck. I had a 78 Lincoln Town Car with the 460 that was a piece of crap!

You are correct, two smaller intake and one large exhaust. Three lobes on a single overhead cam. The engine I just built for the 03 is a four valve engine similar to the ECOTEC Saturn engines. Four smaller valves with the plug in the center.

Been working on another Expedition I purchased last month. I found a nice enough to keep 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4. I bought it knowing it needed engine repair or replacement for $600. It ran well enough to drive onto the trailer. After close inspection it will be a nice driver for the year or so I plan to upgrade my crew cab pickup. The pickup will get a turbo Diesel and the heavy duty 4L80e transmission. I put it together 21 yers ago with a non turbo engine and a 700R4 transmission.

I am in the middle of rebuilding the engine for the Expedition and will also overhaul the transmission before I put it all together. I am using a bunch of parts left over from building a couple Navigators and one Expedition. The one Expedition is for sale and there has been some interest, probably will sell when people get their tax refunds.

Man, I wish I lived close to you just to watch you work! LOL I'm happy that you have things to keep you busy during retirement. I've started looking for things to do and then when I find them, I'm too lazy or tired to start them! LOL Good luck with the sale and I hope you get top dollar for it, Andy.

The 04 Expedition is almost back together. Should be completed tomorrow. I disassembled the transmission I bought as a core to repair another transmission. The core had no reverse, I found a broken band and perfect clutches. Reverse shuddered in the transmission in my 04, so apart it came. The reverse clutch was burnt so I replaced the entire reverse assembly with the one from the core trans. Based on a study of two I will assume this is the weak point of the 4R70/75 series transmission. LOL

😀
