Default maybe someone knows-tool question

Lately I've kinda been wondering, I know Craftsman has the lifetime warrentee on their hand tools, with the sockets, extentions, screwdrivers, etc that get turned in what happens to them? Are they just tossed out, sent back and remelted into new ones or what?

If you turn a tool into a tool truck eg: give a non-snap on tool to the snap on guy as credit what do they do with those tools? I doubt that can resell them since they represent snap on but cant see just tossing them in the trash either.

if its something repairable, I would imagine they could refurbish it and sell it for less -but I also think if a tool is mangled enough they would probably recycle it into a new tool

It is not uncommon to see re-manufactured tools in various locations. The list is large, but people who specialize in selling tools rarely have a provision to repair and re-sell. The profit margin is not there and they compete with them selves. The snap on and equivalent tool trucks largely provide a service to the budding beginning mechanic who may need the "special' tools and are willing to establish a credit account. There is big money in servicing credit accounts on overpriced tools. Are they good? Yes, are they worth it? Ony if you can use them and they are paid for other wise it is a needless expense and a horrific debt. You are paying largely for convenience and a life time warranty.

My logic would suggest that returned/broken tools eventually end up in the scrap heap, for recycling into new products

I try to recycle my tool as often as possible. Most times the old lady is willing. LOL
