Default Driving posture...

So, I decided a short while ago, that I was getting my Saturn onto a road course somehow, and found one about four hours from me... I thought that as such is in the making, I should probably try and improve my driving posture... After all, I can't show up on a track driving like Dom Toretto and expect to put down a good time... So, I've been making an effort to keep both hands on the wheel(normally I have one hand at 12 o clock position, and e other resting on the shifter), other than shifting, and shifting with an open, cupped palm using motion mostly derived from my wrist...

What a mental challenge, correcting all my mistakes...

are you keeping your clutch foot pressed on the footrest back in front of the speaker when not in use? Ooops S car location. Must be equiv in Ion. Putting your foot here with pressure helps to keep you centered behind the wheel esp in turns.

You prob already know this but I am amazed at how many people I talk to that have no idea what I'm doing while slaloming out on the country roads where the middle line is a suggestion

I drive the same way.
If you want to do a road course, im sure you already know to start looking into coil overs, a better suspension, and wider tires.

I actually hold my clutch foot over the pedal... Reason being, my pedal is effed up(the little clip is worn out), and if you let it go all the way up, it needs pressed back into socket before it can be accurately modulated, so I don't let it go all the way back up... In daily driving, I do let it up, but only when I don't need to leave OD for a while...

I totally understand wanting to be centered behind the wheel, my Recaros do a pretty good job of that... My only complaint about my car is that my seatbelt doesn't lock tightly against my chest like others I have had... I'm used to being able to cinch the belt tight, and lock it and have it hold me tightly into e seat, preventing any unwanted movement at all...

While I want better suspension goodies, it's completely out of budget... Honestly, I'm not looking to be particularly competitive, just mostly to be able to flog the car with no fear of police/traffic... Every time I've played with the car, I've pissed off some neighbor or another...

I honestly just want drop springs, full FE5 stuff, Progress sway bars... And I'm seriously considering doing 235/45 tires on all corners... The main reason for going back to 215/45s was to make the speedo accurate, and it's still slow on the freeway(GPS says 68 at an indicated 65), so I've no further reason for the stock tire sizing... The 235s seem to fit okay, so they might be my new size when these wear out, probably in the next 15k...

So, I'm doing it- getting my IRL onto a track... Summit Point Raceway is having a couple open track days in the next couple months, and it's reasonably priced, and I wanna go... Gotta make sure my car will pass tech inspection and get the cash saved... It's like $250 for a Friday At The Track event... In the AM they instruct you on braking points and stuff, then in the PM they turn you loose in your own car...

Sadly, she refuses to go... I was kinda hoping to get a group together and represent Saturn Forum there... Two IRLs and an SC2, if you get my drift...

Derf, time to rebuild your suspension. You need some coilovers, strut bar, and a rear sway bar (if they make one for the s-series).

I wonder how far that is from me. About to google it.

14 hours from me. I can probably do it in 12.
And find a walmart, so I can sleep in the parking lot. Only thing that place is good for anyway.
I would have to drive up a few days early to make sure everything on my car is straight.
I wonder if a roll cage is required.

A roll cage isn't required for street cars... They have a tech form in the page...

Friday at the Track? | Summit Point Motorsports Park

Seems that the only requirement is your car in good shape... Only issue I might have is alignment... My rear is not quite perfect, and my car pulls occasionally to the right... Worst case, is my alignment will fail me, and I might track my Ranger instead...
