The SOHC engines see lower revs than the DOHC version, and has a smaller tendency to consume oil, thus lessening engine wear...

DOHC's seem to develop oil burning issues sooner than the SOHCs. So if someone is not paying attention to the oil level, they will lose the engine more quickly.

The heads have twice as many moving parts to fail.

Also, the sporty experience of driving a Saturn DOHC is just fun. People tend to push their cars harder, and mechanical failure is often the result. Plus people probably wreck them more often while having fun instead of paying attention to the traffic, the road, and/or the landscape.

That's my take on it. Most is conjecture.

Folks .....what's your opinion on the question?
