Almost the end of the end?

What a pisser.

Never say never, but I cannot believe that, with all that GM could have done with Saturn, all the market share they began to gain and then lost due to ineptitude via stale products, that GM could POSSIBLY have taken such a great concept and executed it -- literally-- MURDERED it.

It was supposed to be all the things GM wasn't. At the beginning it was exactly that. That's why people flocked to it. The early cars were rough but they sorted most of that out.

GM couldn't let it work itself out -- and wouldn't allow the brand to do what was needed to sustain and grow.

Then they forced it right down a rathole with malconceived underpowered Astras and the ever popular Relay -- some kind of Chevy Astrovan clone from the 80's -- all 14 that sold were last seen on their way to Utah....

How did we get from "we're still here" to "don't let the locking door hit you in the ass"?

And what the hell is Renault Nissan doing vetoing the deal the day before the announcement? Is that supposed to be funny? Ironic? Or is it a ploy to get more concessions out of Penske and indirectly out of GM?

I believe that someone will save Saturn.

It cannot end like this.

Well Said! This truly cannot be the end of Saturn. There is still so much potential to this brand it saddens me that wealthy patrons of this country that have the ability to save this company do not come together to keep a true American product alive. I guess they would rather support German and Japanese economies and keep are hard working natives on a unemployment check...........................

so whats gonna happen to our cars if we need parts and junk? how will we get them

derf 10-05-2009 08:06 PM

cannibalism, eventually

Not to whine, but I really can't stand the idea of having to purchase another brand when it is time for a new car. We are on our second Saturn (2008 vue, 1999 SC2) in 10 years. No we don't buy a new car every other year and are not big time spenders, but Saturn has always taken good care of us and treated us with respect at all times. We didn't receive that at dealerships prior.

sw2cam 10-17-2009 10:11 PM

Ok ............... don't whine and we'll not offer you cheeeeeese.

Thats funny, he came on here made one post whining about how he does not want to whine.

Cheese is in order.

I'm kind of glad the Penske deal fell though...

I would prefer to have the brand name die, then to have a French or Korean made thing using the name. It was an American made car & that's why I bought it. All the running gear is identical to the Chevy Malibu & the Pontiac G6. Can't fault GM for shedding both brands. They were competing against themselves.

Not to worry .............. Saturn is dead.

fm2200 03-04-2011 12:06 PM

I know this thread is old but the area where I live is thick with Saturn's of every kind especially the SUV brands Vue & Relay. No one is selling there old Saturns, they keep running and I go to New Jersey and it's the same over there in Middlesex county. I believe there will be Saturns running around for a long time. The brand may have died but the brand still persevere's. I was in shock when I first heard of GM killing off the brand. I really don't understand why Buick is still here. The new Buicks are really nice but there are really hardly any around New York or New Jersey.

I've got a '93SW that is still on the street daily, and everything works (including the automatic seat belts). Occasionally, you'll find a Saturn in the newspaper for sale, but they don't stay long ...

chevy338 03-04-2011 10:28 PM

there all over here for sale but there asking a good amount for them i got lucky as i found mine with under 200000 but most of them are for more then $2000 and they have a lot of problem but you can find some good ones only reason i got mine couse i know they run for ever and you can pick up parts very cheep and when a motor does go bad there cheep to rebuild and the really cool thing is they will never rust

We have bought five Saturns, and have always enjoyed working with them. Saturn of 422 (Niles, Ohio) and Saturn of Boardman (Just South of Youngstown, Ohio), both owned by PACE Pontiac, were great!

We will miss the brand!

sw2cam 03-05-2011 01:32 PM

Many members of this forum have had more then one Saturn, I've had 10 myself and another member has had 14 or 15.

RjION 03-06-2011 08:20 PM

It's me, I've had 15 Saturns in mine and or wifes name. That not counting the Saturns my kids have bought over the years. Bought our last Saturn new in 2007 and the last GM car we will ever have in the driveway. I bought Saturns because I was sick of dealing with GM,Ford,Honda, and so on.

Old thread, a common lament. What happened, I liked them, theyre gone.
Gone in part due to poor marketing, gone mostly because no one bought them at the level needed to make the company profitable.
Maybe gone because when they came out the automotive pressed panned them so bad.
I can't understand the popularity of say, a Hundai. The first ones, I looked at they drove like baby tanks.
But they became popular.
Anyway, I have my first Saturn. I have it because I like it. Why didn't I buy another?
I disliked the coupe when they put that ugly 3rd door on it and tried o convince me I wanted it.
When that didn't work they badge engineered an Opal and tried to convince me I wanted it. Didn't work again, why again, not the first time a badge engineered Opal was sold.
None of them satisfied me the way my Saturn did. Now gone.
I did my part, I bought because I liked it, I kept it because I still did.
I also own 5 AMC cars.
I never could follow a trend worth a darn.
