I was a member years ago but had to re-register. I have a 1998 SW2, DOHC, manual tranny. I'm looking for the passenger-side intermediate shaft assembly. Does anyone know where to get one of these? Tx,

Every once in a while, I purge the inactive usernames, as half of them are bots and the other half are people that do a one-and-done. The purpose is to figure out how many active members we actually have. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'll post again after I dig for that part. Because that's what I do.

Thanks Derf. I used to do all my own work but hand arthritis put an end to that! My mechanic thinks he found a solution and I'm taking the car to him tomorrow. If it does not work he will have to use an OEM part he found (GM part # 21013354 that costs over $500! If that's what it takes I'll do it. My SW2 has only 80K miles on it and I expect to have it a long time. I'll let you know what happens.

Unrelated, but you should be running at least 10W30 to keep it from becoming an oil burner.
stick w the stock NGK copper plugs every 36K.

You'll need a new front O2 sensor between 100 and 125K. The AC Delco part is actually a denso ensor sensor, so get the denso version for less.

You're coming up on needing an upper torque axis mount. Please post whatever you use and how decent or not it is. They are 100% aftermarket now.

You'll want to pay attention for plastic dry rot, particularly on things like the coolant reservoir.

If you truly intend to keep this on the road, I'd consider building up a stock of spare parts. The gen 2 sl and sw 's have mostly vanished from the junk yards, so aftermarket parts will have to do for a lot of things. Some of the AC Delco parts are still available, but I recently learned that after 10 years, ACDelco names an after-market company to fulfill stock that goes in the AC Delco boxes. So you can open up an AC Delco thermostat box and get something that cost $15 less if purchased not as ACDelco. Problem is you don't know what is what until you get it.

I would get things like
A a shifter bushing repair item. P.m. me for details.
a reverse switch
A few extra upper torque axis mounts
A tranny mount
ACDelco cam cover gasket (Fel-Pro seems to make them too large)
A pair of lower control arms. This will suck no matter when you get them because they were manufactured 8 9 10 years ago, and the bushing rubber is already drying out before you ever get it.
Oil filters. I go no further than 5K on mobile one 10 W 30 synthetic.
Air filters
Fuel filters
1 rear O2 sensor which is a bit pricey again, denso.
If you're feeling unlucky, a knock sensor
If you're feeling really unlucky, an entire dis module with the ignition control module and the two coils on it
Brass ects and pigtail
Coolant reservoir cap.
Serpentine belt

I'm sure I've forgotten many things but you get the idea.

It's just a matter of how much you are willing to put out up front versus the risk of it not running long enough to need a lot of this. However, there will be others that will need it and it will not be available for purchase.

Oh I forgot the exhaust. There are very few manufacturers making S car exhausts. Both mufflers, resonators, downpipe to cat,, flange to flange. They differ slightly between the model years. Yes you can have it made custom at a shop

Front O2 sensor...did that 2 years ago. $16 at Auto Zone
Shifter bushing....did that 3 years ago. I bought one made of Delrin on ebay. I had to use cable ties
on the shifter to get the car back to the house.

I'll check into getting some of the other parts, definitely will get the less expensive ones. Thanks again!
