And it's actually the newest car I've ever owned.
I bought this wagon for my sister with 60,000 miles on it. Should have kept it for myself. Now it's got 80,000 and a few gremlins. I have fallen in love with it, as I tend to do with anything I nurture. Nursing it back to health certainly feels like what I've been doing. Taking it from a neglectful, uncaring environment and giving it a loving home. I've developed a real appreciation for the design of this thing. I can tell it was designed by unsupervised mechanics. A drain plug on the transmission? AND a spin-on filter? What marvels! I've never had a car that was so easy to work on, when you know what to do...
Here's how it sits now. That's not gasoline; it's just water. Hoping the Delphi fuel pump I've got coming is worth a darn. They scammed me into buying the whole assembly because the new pumps aren't quite compatible with the OEM housing. Oh well.
Doesn't look half bad from ten feet away, does it? Interior's nice too. Despite that, the to-do list is still rather long. I have lots of questions, and I'm sure one of you won't mind telling me where and how to ask them properly. Looking forward to learning something and maybe even having a good time here. So cheers all, I greet you warmly.
Welcome to the forum. That's a nice looking S series wagon. What year, transmission and SOHC or DOHC engine? Derf is our current S series guru, so to speak. Just post your questions in the S series topics and we'll be glad to help where we can.
I do believe that is something like a 97 or 98 SW1. A bit more difficult because you've got steelies on there and I never committed the patterns to memory.
Sounds and runs fine from here.
I'm thinking valve body / input shaft nut/reverse slam issues, because the rest of the vehicle looks way too nice for its age....
It was built in 1996, but I think it's technically a 1997 model. Just the basic SOHC with an automatic. Would you believe it drives as good as it looks? No reverse slam. The shifts are smooth as glass into every gear. The factory coolant temp sensor was in it, and even it hadn't failed or leaked. It's like it drove out of a time warp.
If that's the case, congratulations.
But please continue to wear your aluminum foil hat when in the car, as any tag alongs from the past are likely trying to read the RFID signal from your brain.
