Hi. I just joined, having purchased my first Saturn a couple of months ago. It's a 2004 Ion 2 with manual transmission. Got it for a really good price, but it needed to have the transmission replaced -- really bad growl above 30 mph. Found out why when I drained the fluid prior to removing it; it looked like tar coming out. Replacement went in, but got a bad slave cylinder in the new clutch kit. Had to take it out again to replace the slave cylinder, and bleeding the clutch system is a genuine pain. But it's all together and working fine now.

Welcome to the forum. I don't know squat about the Ion in particular, but do have a tiny bit of experience working on my own cars for 50 years or so.
