Default new mamber from WV...

hello... i've been lurking and reading for a week or two and decided to join...
the saturn in my family belongs to my wife, it's a 2000 SL1, SOHC auto with about 84,500 miles(it's bone stock)... been a great car for the couple months we've had it, minus some small issues...

Welcome to the Forum ... make sure you change the oil regularly, keep an eye on the oil level between changes, and make sure your tires are properly inflated ...

i'm pretty good about checking on stuff like that... only thing my wife doesn't like about it is the lack of power from the SOHC... i knew she would, coming into this car from a v6 suzuki grand vitara...

Welcome to the forum. The car will run forever with oil and water.
If it doesn't burn oil that means it's never been over heated and the oil has been changed along with the filter. Not one of my S cars burnt oil. Not uncommon to get 36-38 mpg on the highway.

not sure if her car burns oil or not, but the fuel mileage did shock me... we had an "economy race" between Parkersburg, WV and Glenville, WV, and her SL1 got almost 38 mpg and my much newer car only got 33.5... my car will certainly run circles around hers though...

Hello and welcome to the Saturn Forum ............ Check the radiator drivers side top. Look for swelling/cracking of the plastic tank, also check your water pump for seeping. Change the oil and filter, 10-30 will do the trick. I've had 10 S-Cars and not a one of them burnt oil. Always used 5-30 MOBIL-1 and kept a close eye on water temp.

Read this link and do as it says. Maybe do it before you have a problem then you know it's done.

The little SOHC cam car was never meant to win any races, yet the fuel mileage is nice.

i just changed the water pump(it was getting 30 miles per gallon of coolant when we parked it) and it's not leaking that anymore and i changed the oil... Pennzoil 5W-30 and a NAPA Gold filter... temp never goes above the quarter mark on the gauge... like i said, it's turning out to be a pretty good car...

Welcome to the forum. The SOHC is a damned good engine.
