Hello everyone,

My father just purchased a 2002 Saturn LS1 to be used as a second car. Since he is not really the forums kinda guy I decided to join instead of him to learn a bit more about the car we bought. I'm hoping to find some info on the typical problems for this model so we can possibly prevent some of them from happening. I'm thinking a list of recalls would be a good start.

Anyway I thought I'd say hi before I start posting a few questions.

The car: 2002 LS1, 175k km or 109k miles, 5spd, 1.9l I4?

Welcome to the forum. Keep an eye on your oil level and change it at the recommended intervals. If it's a DOHC engine, it will most likely use oil between changes. You can go to a heavier weight oil such as 10w-40 and reduce that.

Thanks everone for the warm welcome.

@Rubehayseed: How do I know if it is DOHC engine? We will be doing regular maintanance including 5k oil changes, in fact he changed oil a few days after purchase just to be safe. It was a bit low too.

If your SATURN is a 4 cly L-series it's a DOHC ECOtec engine thats not known to burn oil.

S-Series (compact)
