</>Hello everyone, my friends call me Whitey. Thank you for letting me join the group. I just bought a 2004 ION 2 Quad Coupe. The car isn't in too bad of condition. It has 79,000 miles on it. I want to do some of the maintenance on it that hadn't been done like it should have been. The first thing I want to take care of is a thunking sound in the suspension. I jacked up the front end and then rested the car down on the jack stands. I couldn't feel anything loose under there except for being able to easily slide the sway bar (anti-roll bar) from side to side. I am going to buy new bushings tomorrow for it. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it common? Is there something else I should be looking at more closely that may be a common problem with the ION Quad Coupe suspension? Is there an upgrade or aftermarket set of bushings for this model? If I am going to change it, I would like to get something that may perform a bit better than OEM. Edited by: Philanderer

If it is a real solid clunking then check the top of the struts for any leaking. Its possible that it could be blown

i'll put my money on the sway bar bushings. prob the most common bushing to let go on the ions. other than that if the sway bar links have no play check the lower control arm bushing. with tires off the ground check to see if the bushing is collapsed and it's metal on metal.
