Default Hey! I'm a new one to forums

Hi all,
So, 07.24.2024 landed on a 2004 Saturn Ion RedLine Supercharger after desperately being in need of wheels a while. Drove an hour straight north (I'm mid-central Illinois), property was somewhat rural with an awesome road to test-drive this car on!! It also had been a couple decades since having driven a manual lol.

* SideNote: My previous stick-shift a 1990 Nissan 240SX SE I bought back after being rear-ended by a Suburban in the Quad-Cities in January of '08. Considered a total loss, this just after the summer Dad totally rebuilt the engine... *sigh*. So, I knew the engine was top-notch bc he's an Awesome mechanic. Dylan was about to turn 3 [about to turn 21 now! Yikes! ] and being a hatchback, distance between the body trunk being so offset, you guessed it, sucked exhaust SO BADLY. Sits out by the shed still awaiting - 1st car I ever picked out for myself. *

Believe I ended up giving $3,600 to 2nd owner of this black coupe RedLine with it having 126,000-ish miles at the time..?? Kid (to me lol), Dale, handed me a blue folder on purchase that he was given from original owner, inside? receipts for every maintenance & repair he'd taken it in to shop to be done. Pretty freakin awesome!
Within 1st week of 1st year owning... I received 1st of 2 "Ordinance Violations" for speeding + had an insurance ticket (accidentally handed the expired card to the State Trooper.. oops!) which of course easily waived @ courthouse lol Needless - BUT - I've been having fun driving a manual around again!!

Didn't realize at the time, that these are considered somewhat rare and really rather have been overlooked or sorta dismissed for what they were comparatively at time of manufacture. Definitely NOT without their own quirks!
Look forward to hopefully figuring out some answers to seemingly issues much specific to these cars alone! In attempt to keep my personal mechanics from firing me lol!

I'm not sure if my car falls as an "S" or whatnot on the long list.. I know it's the LSJ engine w/ DOHC=mp3 which I picked up somewhere possibly being the "GetRag"?? But being the 4cyl 2.0L engine.
Sounds like you guys really "know your stuff" & have a pretty supportive + responsive community here and I'm grateful for all the help I can get! Looking forward to having a good resource so maybe I look like I know what I'm talking about.
Thanks for having me,
Jessie

Welcome to the forum. The Ion Redline is the hotrod around here. I guess the Sky is pretty fast also. Getrag is the transmission manufacturer. And yes it is the 2.0 with all the good internals, forged parts and special valves. I have a turbo version of that same engine on an engine stand that I probably won’t ever get into my L200/5.

Welcome.

There are two users on the forum that are way into the redlines.
They do have their quirks and pull boost if you lok at them funny, butI hear it's a ball when the universe aligns.

Your car is a Saturn Ion Redline. Came with the 2.0 L supercharged Ecotec engine and Gertag 5 speed straight from the factory.
MP3 is an S series 5 speed -- not applicable here.

Not trying to get rid of you, but there is a Saturn Redline forum of its own
https://www.redlineforums.com/
Just visited to make sure it was alive.

One of the mods (Goaliemo) also posts here, but usually only when summoned.

You'll learn from the redline masters over there

Welcome to the forum, man. I know absolutely nothing about those cars. Goailemo, however, is a fountain of knowledge.
