Default Hello from Montana everyone!

Hello. I am new to the forum but not new to Saturn ownership. I have a 97 SL1 with a little bit of a story and I am coming here to ask for some ideas of where to go from here. The car I have originally belonged to the Mom of a friend of mine. When his Mom passed, my friend got the car. He and his wife drove the car for years. The thing is, my friend's wife and her mother-in-law hated each other. Thus, his wife hated the car. A few years back it developed a problem with a solenoid in the shifter and she used the opportunity to get rid of the car. He said to me one day that he would like to just find someone to haul it away. I said, "I know a guy". I loaded it onto my trailer and brought it home. For about 35 bucks I fixed the solenoid and drove the car for a few years. It has now thrown a DTC of P0741 and it shifts erratically. It only has 115,000 miles on it and runs great otherwise. The clearcoat is peeling on the metal panels and the interior has seen some use. I want to get rid of it but am not sure what to do with it. In the effort of trying to sell it, all I got was insane lowballs and a few Youtube hopefulls wanting to do destructive stuff to it. I did entertain a few of the Youtuber calls but it seems a shame to destroy. I would love any thoughts on what I should do with it that honors the uniqueness of the brand and such. I am in no hurry so some brainstorming would be great.

Welcome!

Please post your technical issues in a separate thread in the appropriate S car section and we will take it from there

Thanks, moderator. I am not asking about technical issues. I am asking what to do with this car, including giving it to someone. If this forum is not interested and just wants to engage in jumping through hoops, then I'm just taking it to scrap this weekend.

Give it away and make sure it is transferred out of your name.

Was just exploring if there was any chance of you having any possible willingness left to troubleshoot the issue.

Guess not.

I would recommend if you are serious about getting it to someone else in the Saturn Community who might make positive use of it, post in the classified section of this forum and also at thesaturnforums.com.

New posts to this site get indexed by the search engines in less than a day, so the findability of your post is much wider than you might imagine. Just be sure to title the post with the year, trim model, AT, and the mileage. Add a few outside and inside pictures just because. Sounds like a good candidate for a parts car, possibly even the engine. Can't find that type of low mileage engine out there.

Good luck.

I'd try replacing the torque converter clutch solenoid and see if that cures it. If so, drive it like you stole it for a few more years. If not, donate it to you local vo-tech school and write it off on your taxes.

Dude, he doesn't wanna fix it. Some type of hoop issue or something. Letting it get parted out will help several others to keep their vehicles on the road.
.Hoop Hoop Hooray (?)

(Didn't even list it in the classifieds)

I'm just saying that it might be a cheap and easy fix for someone to have a running, driving car. I have a friend who's in desperate need of a car as the engine in her Soul spun a bearing or two. She has NO money and works a menial job in a pet store 6 days a week. If that car wasn't so far away, I'd go get it for her and try the TCC solenoid repair and just give her the car.

Hence my initial post exploring the possibility of fixing it.
Some people just have their mind made up before they ever ask for Independent advice.

Not sure what the point of posting the code was if he never intended to fix it, but that is neither here nor there. If he followed through on his plans, it's in a wrecking yard by now.

I can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
