Default Windshield Removal

Hey, have any of you guys ever removed and replaced the windshield on your car? Last week when I was at Pull-A-Part in Nashville, two of the SC coupes had perfect windshields. I could use another one for mine, but I have not removed a windshield since back in the 70's and don't have a clue as to how this sum beech comes out. I removed the wiper arms and lower trim pieces but can't see where to go from there. Oh, I do know there are two 7mm bolts at the bottom of the windshield. There is one on each side. I just can't see if there are any other bolts or trim pieces that need to be removed. If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it.

only ever had mine professionally replaced; been told that, due to the extreme curvature on the sides, they are actually quite difficult to do

Well, I may try to remove one at the junk yard the next time I go. If I break it, no big deal. They'll never know. I can't afford the three hundred bucks it would cost for one to be installed around here. YIKES! I only gave eight hundred for the car.

Piano wire does the trick. The newer( 96SL and 97 SC) are easier, but the older ones are still doable.

I had a guy tell me he uses a guitar string. I'm guessing it's not quite as strong as a piano wire. I just wonder how the hell you'd get it started.

Piano wire...guitar string, it's all the same. I know the piano wire comes in 25' rolls, and sometimes you need a 5-6 foot piece. I don't think guitar strings come that long. To start, just push the end of the wire through the butyl seal with a needle nose pliers. Then hook up your 2 vice grips and start sawing away. Be careful around the headliner as the piano wire can't tell the difference.

I'm not sure that's something I'm going to attempt, Howie. Even though I can get a windshield for about fifty bucks at Pull-A-Part, I'd still have to pay someone to install it in my car and I don't know how much that would run me. I'm in no hurry anyway since none of the chips are in the line of vision. Yet!
