Need some guidane desperately. A couple of days ago my son is driving our sl1 when the battery light came on the car immediately lost pwer. max speed was about 5 MPH. I tried replacing the battery, no go. Checked both cables and no problems there. When the key is turned on there is no power going to anything. When we first tried with the new battery there was a single click. Nothing since. What is my next course of action? Any likely candidates for the cause?

Thanks,

Any fuses blown (instrument panel and underhood junction box)?

Any molten wiring/insulation/residual smell of burned plastic?

None that I could find. All fuses to include maxifuses look good. I am really stumped.

Was the battery leaking............if so remove the battery and battery tray. If the wiring harness is wet or white from acid?, you'll need to replace that harness. Also check your possitive battery cable. Is it rotting away from acid. Is it swollen from acid. Peel back a bit of casing near the terminal end and look for corrosion. Replace if any is found.

+1 ; "it's not a complete circuit anymore" is the most likely answer. Are you sure both the + battery lead and - (the ground) lead are electrically and physically sound?

Checked both with an ohm meter and they are good. I am going to check the wiring harness and clean the connectors on the leads and let you know what happens.
