I've got a '95 SL2 and always had an oil comsumption problem. Have to add a quart about every 2 weeks also. My teen drives it now and is very hard on it, so I've got to check the oil more frequently.

My 95 does the same thing - more like a quart every 3 weeks (or so). Every time I fill it up, I check the oil levels. Recently, however, I started using synthetic oil and I've noticed slightly less of a consumption. On the lighter side, I've read in other forums that some of the older Saturns are the "Exxon Valdez" of automobiles (obscure reference to the amount of oil wasted).

Short of installing a gas chromatograph on my tailpipe, I assume that the oil is being combusted and expelled out as CO2 or some sort of a volitile ketone or ester (there's a sweet smelling odor coming from my exhaust). In my experience, and from everything that I've read about this on Deja.com, Saturn owners experience no noticible dripping.

Typical Saturn... check the gas, fill up the oil.

My 1998 SL-2 burns oil like crazy too. Check the crankcase ventilation blow-by while removing the oil fill with the engine running. If the oil/air/exhaust mixture is very high it may indicate a valve seating problem which may be caused by bad hydraulic lifters. Does your Saturn make alot of engine noise too?
