Thanks for all the help guys problem seems to have been solved. Got home last night and immediately changed the sensor - went for a drive with no change. This morning I went and soldered a new connector and big change! The temp gauge still doesn't go above the 1/4 mark so I will get a new 195 degree thermostat and replace that. the rpms seem to me to be a little slow occasionally in dropping between shifts but that may be just a sticky IAC. So again thanks.
