Default hard to remove fuel cap

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue, 6 cyl. The fuel cap is now very difficult to remove. I do not have any engine light to come on to indicate a problem that would be related to a loose fuel cap. When I try to remove the cap, it just clicks as I turn it. When I do remove it, and then put it back on, I can turn it all I want and it clicks, but never fastens tight. I can't even remember now if it's supposed to fasten tight. It seems that it is taking me longer now to remove it, I feel almost like I am cracking a safe.
Does anyone have a suggestion to help me get it off quicker? Thanks for any advice.

You have to be kidding ................... you can not figure out all by yourself you need to replace the fuelcap.

Believe it or not, but the gas cap can fail. OEM replacements are available at nearly every GM dealership (not very expensive, either)

Ok, fellers. I appreciate your replies and I will buy a fuel cap from the dealer when I can. I sure wish I understood how these things work tho. Thanks again.
