cost to replace air compressor and could you drive with a bad one
who knows I maybe able to get more out of it but its scary when you are turning into traffic and it just does not want to go it will eventually its been like that for a long time we fixed some things that were causing it not to start but that issue never went away we even thought it was a hole in the muffler I have to say for a little light weight car it was great in the snow which was really what I bought it for someone who worked on it for me said they were just cheap cars that never should have been made very poorly made but people I know had them and loved them when I first got it it would not start the guy who sold it to me had to bypass some wiring where the CD player is he said it was getting very very hot he bypassed something and it was fine
where might that be. that was around 10 yrs ago it ran fine after that actually it ran fine it just would not start the wiring was too hot. we fixed more things that we thought may have been the problem with the hesitation at times it just does not want to go mostly when you are idling then turning into traffic if you jam your foot on the gas it will lurch forward its getting to be a huge problem. I have a car picked out clunker junker offered me 440 for this one that is a great price I doubt I can sell it esp with the check engine light on plus the paint is coming off the moon roof leaks I had to put tape on it the button for the trunk on the drivers side does not work the compressor is making a noise at times the heater makes a loud noise the motor mounts need to be replaced at times the brakes make a loud noise (the brakes are ok we checked them)the rear wheel was falling off twice the brake lines went that was scary . the car served its purpose it was in its day a nice little car to drive

Bypass in most cases means work around so as to not have to address the root cause.
The car is too far gone now. It's a shame

I see what you mean take the easy way out. its pretty beat up now with the paint coming off a few wks ago it stalled when it was idling that went away plus at times it just does not want to go which can be dangerous I know people that bought them new and they loved them I was lucky I have a mechanic who works very cheap if I had to bring it to a shop I would prob be 5,000 fixing it and the car is not worth 500 who knows maybe it may go a few more yrs maybe good for someone who likes to work on cars a good project for me its just not worth putting anymore money into it I could take that money and put it towards a newer car I guess that is prob why they did not make them very long
I have put approximately 500,000 mi total on a 95 and 97 SC2. The 95 runs fine and is sitting in my driveway.
For the most part, cars that received regular maintenance and care lived on. Those that didn't did not. Certain things, when left unaddressed, can and will damage other things.

I should have gotten rid of it a few yrs ago when things really started to go I have a 2018 Impreza I have to look at I hear its a good reliable car low miles this car at this point I hope when I go out I just make it there and back home 23 yrs old is old for a car but they can last over 200,000 miles my friend has a Toyota SUV 214,000 miles and she has hardly spent any money on it my father had a Toyota pickup 20 yrs he had it and all he ever did was change the oil they last forever
I have a 2017 Kia Forte LX that I bought new in July of 2017. I currently have 171,000 miles on it and it still runs like a top. It has a 2.0 four cylinder engine and 6 speed automatic transmission. I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles with full synthetic motor oil and a Mobil1 filter. I switched from Mobil1 motor oil to Valvoline Restore and Protect about 10,000 miles ago. It uses about a half quart of oil between changes. I STILL use the Mobil1 filter. I need this car to get to 250,000 at least and do all of my own maintenance. I've replaced the front brake pads and rotors twice and the rear pads and rotors once. It still has the original serpentine belt and it's still in good shape. I am going to put a new one on it at 175,000 and will keep the old one in the trunk as a back up. The ONLY time it has ever been to a dealership is for KIA announced recalls or warranty work. My point is that if you get a new car and do the regular maintenance, today's cars should last a long time.
