When the timing chain breaks on 2001 SL2 vehicles, is the engine designed so that the valves do not contact the pistons? I bought the car with a bullet hole in the hood, and, subsequently,in the valve cover. I guess the timing chain stopped it.Edited by: hoseppi

Saturn engines are interference engines. So if the timing chain breaks, there goes your valves.
