Default Aura XR 3.6 transmission fluid

I have a 2007 Aura XR. I bought it new and the last several months I noticed that at very low speed like a parking lot, it would act like it shifted into neutral. If you just touched the gas the rpm would go up then it would almost throw you in the back seat. This may have been going on for quite sometime as this is my wife's car and I seldom drive it. She says she thought this was normal. Any way, I checked the fluid as shown how in the man. It did not even register on the dip stick. I added approximately one pint and now it does register ok. I can not find any evidence what so ever of a leak so who knows why it was low. It has 50K on it and has never had fluid added. My question is, is one pint enough to affect the performance on this tranny? I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Thanks

As I remember, there used to be a service point at 50,000 for the transmission ....

Did you miss it?

While my personal experiance is zero with that transmission, it is not uncommon to have shifting problems when a dip stick for an automatic shows no fluid on it. I just spent a few min. looking on the internet for a trend that indicats problems with that transmission and did not really see one. GM (along with others) seem to have adpated a manufacturing plan of developing some form of generic engine and/or transmission and using them in pretty much everything they build. A methodology in the past known as the usage of propiertory parts and some times referred to as Badge Engineering. That is the only difference between your car and mine although the name indicated on the badge is different, is the badge itself. With the advent of electronic shifting, many previously reliable automatic transmissions have turned into something that has now become problematic requiring far more frequent service to insure that they stay problem free.

I take back what I said earlier, a slightly different wording of the terms in the search string came up with these results:
http://www.google.com/search?q=2007+...w=1349&bih=535
and this seems to indicate the transmission is a bit of a Turkey!

Thanks for your reply and research! I have topped the trans. With fluid and will drive it this weekend to see what happens.
