i have a problem with my door locks freakin out when i leave the car for a while.i think one of the lock or unlock relays is sticking but i dont know where they are. is someone familiar with this system in this car and can tell me where to look. thanks
|
No offense intended, but the comment ... ''my door locks freakin out'' does not supply enough information. Please restate your problem more clearly ... |
i can hear the locking soleniod or motor trying to constantly run by by itself, usualy after the lock or unlock button is used. it will mostly do it after the car is sitting for about an hour or so. when i get back in the car you hear this thing running and despite hitting the door lock button on either door, lock or unlock it keeps going. the only way to stop it is to pull the fuse. what do you think. steve

OK Steve ... Just a couple of more questions .... 1) Which fuse (specifically) are you pulling to make the lock stop? 2) What year/model do you have? 3) Does it react this way with the remote keyfob too? |
i am pulling the 20a fuse on the bottom right side of the fuse block marked locks, that also takes out the lighter(very annoying). this fuse block is located on the passenger side kick panel. the car is a 93 sc2, i dont have a key fob. i just got the car a few months ago and there is no alarm or keyless entry. i would like to install one but i must solve this problem first. this is an intermitent problem which makes it harder to find and it always seems to happen when i have no time. i am an accomplished electrician and i understand scematics, i have pulled both door lock buttons when the problem occurs. this did nothing so i eliminated the possibility of the buttons beeing bad, however i am not ruling out bad wiring. i would like to eliminate a lot of searching and go to the relays and check them next because i feel the problem is in one of them. thanks steve

next time it happens i will try it, thanks

AARRGGHHHHHH ..... MY BAD!! Sorry, delete my previous comments (your vehicle does not have that option.) Instead, we shall travel on to the next level. What about the keyswitch on the driver door (the one operated by the key in the doorlock) - does that operate properly ?? |
yes it does, i didnt think of that in fact you may have solved my problem. this does not happen all of the time but when i use the key it is possible to take the key out without disengaging the door switch. ie if you lock or unlock with key and you dont turn it in the full vertical position the key will come out and the lock stays engaged. i tested it and i got the same condition( locks engaged) until i put the key vertical. it is very possible this may be my problem.do you know if there is some mechanism that should bring the lock back to zero or vertical like a spring. is it safe to lubricate it orwill i risk compromising the contacts if they are located in the switch. thanks steve |
Short answer here ... Remove the driver doorkey assembly. Go to SATURN and obtain a new one. Go to local locksmith, and have them rekey the new assembly to match your key(s). Install the new assembly, and enjoy |
sounds good, thanks steve
