Default 2001 SW2 starter issues > I think?

This has happened a few times over the last couple of months, and now it won't start.

The problem:
Upon starting the car, a loud screaching sound, so I immediately shut off the engine. But a what sounds like to me the starter motor continues to run or engage and the car is other wise off - sounds like: chk! chk! chk! or clicking, but very loud. Nothing will make the sound go away other then immediately starting the engine again and the sound goes away and the car runs fine.

...that is until this morning when the above stated happened, and now it dead. But the battery is fine.

I turn the key, the lights come on, the gauges light up, but no noise, no starter, nothing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John

I agree with Paul. Sure sounds like that gear is staying in the flywheel.

Starter needs rebuilt from the sound of it. Hello by the way, you might want to introduce yourself.
