I have a 96 SL1 with manual transmission. When i''m at a stop and I shift into what should be first gear and take off, I''m actually in 3rd gear. and when i shift into what should be 2nd gear, I''m now in 4th. I shift the gear shift all the way to the left and up, it seems to go into gear, but when i take off it''s in 3rd.. [img]smileys/smiley5.gif[/img]

Yep, you have either a broken shift cable or one of the clips on the transmission side has popped off. But my money is on the cables. Not too hard a repair.
