Default starting issues

On some days my 97 saturn will refuse to start. starter motor just turns over continuously without combustion

Checking the forum I have notice similar people having the same problem with their saturn and it was recommended to replace the ETCS.

I have since replaced the old sensor (which had a crack in the bulb) and now I am getting combustion, but it is not catching. there was mild corrosion on the pigtail? the plastic piece that caps the sensor and sends signals to computer.

I did not replace this plastic piece.

If i continue to hold the ignition, the starter motor turns, the engine combusts the fuel, but will not continue on its own without the ignition.

I have checked all the spark plugs, they are clean, correct gaps and have a light brown color, which i was informed to be good. when testing their spark from the engines coil, the frequency is about 2 per second which seems low in my mind.

I also checked all the contacts for the wire, from coil and onto spark plug, they are clean and the wires have good conductivity.

Replace the ECTS pigtail. It's critical to the problem.

thanks for the response.

Given all the information you still believe that the pigtail is the issue? not the coil or anything else?

or is your advice of changing the pig tail dependent on that i changed the ECTS?

thanks for you time =) very helpful

The pigtail can cause an intermittent connection/signal to the engine, causing it to not run properly.

the corrosion can lead to erroneous readings taken by the PCM
