ok, got a clatter in the upper end, it is harmonic to rpm's and seems to be louder at one time than another, any ideas i can check to pin point the problem, so I dont have alot of downtime when i fix it.

you could try what some mechanics do. they actually have a stethoscope in their toolbox so they can listen to, and pinpoint the origin of the problematic noise. a little more primitive, but i've seen others use a long extention and place one end on the cyl. head, and the other next to their ear. As for the specific problem..... it's hard to say w/o actually hearing it in person

Actually, a large flat tip screw driver pressed against the cyl. is alot easier, and stehascopes tend to get ruint from the oily tools. when you can hear it through the driver handel, you know where it is and know what to look for.

Oh, I foregot to mention, to get too close to the moving parts, you don't want the driver in your ear, so be careful while around moving parts.
