Hi,

I have a 97 SW1 and the speedometer makes a ticking sound when I am driving slow. On the highways you do not hear the sound as it is too fast. Can anyone suggest on how to stop this sound because it is driving me crazy. Don't tell me to turn up the radio, my wife already said that. If I replace my instrument cluster witha digital one would that work? or the hookup is different? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Regards,

I have a 1997 SL and I also hear that sound that you describe, almost like a speedometer cable that needs to be lubricated. I believe the speedometer sensor is electronic. So the sound would be coming from the instrument cluster as you said. Replacing that cluster would be expensive unless you can find a salvage yard that has a quiet one or you can replace the instrument only, that is causing that noise.

I have replaced it with one from the junk yard and it is the same so I guess if I want to fix it I will have to buy a new cluster and that is too expensive. I noticed that some came with a digital odometer and would replace it with one on these but I am not sure if the connection is the same.
