Dumb question here. How often should I change out the Igniton Coil and Ignition Control Modules? I need to do a tune up and I was going to change the plugs out. Do I need to change these out as well?

View Full Version : Ignition Coil Question 03Vue 03-10-2011, 08:12 PM Dumb question here. How often should I change out the Igniton Coil and Ignition Control Modules? I need to do a tune up and I was going to change the plugs out. Do I need to change these out as well? derf 03-10-2011, 09:13 PM i'd leave em alone if you're not experiencing any issues with them 03Vue 03-11-2011, 07:30 PM Appreciate it. My service light came on and sometimes it feels like it's bogging down. I was gonna switch it out with the spark plugs. Think I'll leave it alone for now. Thank you for the input. OceanArcher 03-11-2011, 08:07 PM Take the car into your local AutoZone (or similar), and have them dump the computer codes ... post the numbers here. Might be something simple ..... derf 03-11-2011, 08:21 PM indeed get codes read -- could be many things - no point throwing money at guesses sw2cam 03-12-2011, 02:57 PM You can change them everyday or wait till they go bad. 03Vue 03-12-2011, 08:26 PM Thanks, I'll get the codes and get back with you guys. 03Vue 03-20-2011, 09:53 PM So...to continue with the narrative. I changed the plugs, oil filter, cabin air filter, engine air filter. My service light with the wrench went away. We drove to Florida from Virginia Beach, and as I got to Walterboro, SC, my battery light started to flash and the car went dead on I-95. Got it towed to Autozone and found out the battery was good...alternator was bad. A horrible night in a hotel and then 3 hours the next morning...I changed the alternator and got back on the road. All indicator lights were out. About a half hour on the road and the service engine light soon came back on. More to follow. RjION 03-20-2011, 10:56 PM Yes the battery light coming on means the battery IS NOT being charged. OceanArcher 03-21-2011, 07:57 AM Mercy -- All that work, and all that travelling (enjoy the vacation), and all the aggravation of a failed alternator, and we still don't know what codes (if any) are stored in the computer ... 03Vue 03-23-2011, 08:36 PM Alright, I went to Advance Auto Parts today and had them check codes. No codes were shown, but I still have a Service Engine Soon light. Does anybody know how to reset this light? Appreciate the help and patience. fm2200 03-26-2011, 11:09 AM I don't know how well the Advanced Auto people are in scanning. I would go to a real well known mechanic in your area for a second scan. I do know that they carry some parts that are not of standard quality. |
