Hi. I'm helping a young man, my daughters boyfriend, who just bought a 2001 Saturn sedan. He made a spare key but it would not start the car. I told him "the key is probably coded. You'll have to go to the dealer and it's probably expensive because you only have 1 key"

I have 3 questions:

1) is the ignition key coded?

2) 2 days later the car wouldn't start. OBD2 code P1626 - "Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable OFF" Would this happen 2 days later? We reset the computer and the car started.

3) How much would a spare key cost at the dealer?

Thanks for any help.

No the key is not coded if your talking a about an S-Series

To have a new key CUT (not ground to match your old key) is about 10 bucks

According to the VIN it's an LS1 built in Wilmington.
Thanks.

Information that should have been included in the first post .... it's kinda hard for anyone to tell what "SATURN SEDAN" your taliking about.
