Ok, sorry for the newb question here, but I don't have a lot of time to search, and I just want to make sure I'm not messing anything up. I am accustomed to japanese cars and have never changed the oil on a saturn but I told my gf I'd do it on her 2002 L100. Is there anything specific i need to know?

unscrew drain plug, drain oil, remove relpace filter, put plug back in and fill with new clean oil

Oh yeah -- don't forget to dispose of the used oil in an ecologically safe manner ...

Best bet is to follow the manfacturer's recommendation. Not sure what your g/f has been using, or who was changing it, might look on the windshield for an oil change sticker - that should give you some insight on what's actually in there ......

don't be surprised by the German type Oil filter and canister.
The oil filter is on the top of engine, not bottom/side. Open hood and it is right in front of you. Black round 3-4 inches diameter. Top part of filter housing screws off easily, this is the cover for the filter. The filter is an open filter with no metal cover housing unlike the usual type filters with metal can type cover.

I wish every manufacturer does it this way. My BMW has the same type.

Be careful. The filter cover and its thread is plastic. Valvoline quick oil shop screwed it on crocked and busted the thread. Oil was coming out heavily through thread. Mess and needed a new cover.
