97 SC2...What is the Service light with the little wrench next to it?
It came on in my car after moving it in the driveway a couple times and
went out after driving it a half mile. Hasn't come on since. All the
manual says is take the car in for service as soon as possible. Is this
service like "time to change your oil" or is it service like "you need
a new engine"?

By the way, this is different from the "check engine" light.

I had that problem as well. Mine would come on and the transmission would shift rough until I turned the engine off and restarted it. A local shop could not diagnose, they said my transmission pump was gone, to replace the transmission $3100. Take it to the dealer for diagnostic check about $80. Turned out my problem was a bad transmission pressure switch solenoid.

This car's a stick shift. I don't think there's any sensors in the
manual trans. Maybe a problem with the ABS or traction control?

It hasn't come on for two weeks now so it may have been a glitch. I'd
still like to know what it covers. I checked it with my OBDII scanner
for the computer and there were no codes or anything like that even
when the light was on. I also had the low coolant/high temp light come
on once but I know that the car wasn't too hot and the coolant level
was correct.

What's an OBDII scanner? When I was having the problem I went to auto-zone and advanced auto for their free diags check. But theirs did not show anything. The American service station guaranteed that theirs would because it cost $5k. It didn't either. But the dealers picked the code right up.

It's the same scanner they use at autozone. It scans the O</span>n B</span>oard D</span>iagnostic
system (your car's computer) for trouble codes. I don't think the
"Service" light has anything to do with the OBD computer.

That's correct. Those OBD's only work for the check engine light not the service light.
