here is the problem I have a 96 saturn sl2 auto trans


to make a long story short.


about 2 years ago a truck lost a load of cargo and I happen to be in the path of all the crap falling off the truck ( yah it sucks to be me)


well it destrored the trans and left strut.


since then the trans was replaced twice by the insurance company


for the sh*tty transmissions the bodyshop was putting in it.


both times it was the diff pin blowing out..


the insurance company will not cover it any more I tried sueing


but it did not work. so I purchase a trans from a junk yard and tore it


down and the diff pin in this one is f up to.


so somepeople said to weld the diff pin place.


or is there a kit to lock the diff together for 2 wheel ingagement

Lock the diff together is a big no no.


The wheels turn at different speed than each other while you turn a corner.


Just weld the diff pin into the diff and have a nice day. Last trans you will ever put into your car.


Oh and if you've gone through all those diff pins all I got to say is quit beating on your saturn until you have the pin welded.


Don't deny it it's the only way they break.

The only TRUE and SAFE way is to get a QUAIFE differential. SMS (SaturnMotorSports) has it for $1750 with bearings and ring-gear installed, ready to drop in to the trans. You can get them for as low as $950... but you will still need bearings and a ring gear, and have to take them to a machine shop for installation, if you have no idea how to install them. That will still run you around $250 labor... best bet, buy from SMS to get it done right.

So there IS a kit. Nice.

yeah. sucks, don't it?!


and, by the time you get that quaife installed on your own, you'll have spent a hair over $2000 if you do it properly.


if you find someone who can weld the pin, you might be able to do it for under $200 (depending on how much you have to pay the welder).


remember folks, it costs about $130 just to crack open your gearbox on your own if you plan on using it again. i know this from painful experience...
