what snow tire do people run?
 

I have a 00 sl1. Its a commuter that sees on average 6/700 miles a week for work. I live in New England so snow will be coming my way eventually just have gotten lucky so far. Currently running 195/60R 15's. Anyone have any input on other sizes or brands that have worked well for them in the past?

Firestone winterforce. They are cheap and AWESOME in the snow. Don't throw your money away paying for the name. Some people salivate over Michelin, Continental etc...Plus Firestone usually runs deals on the Winterforce tires. While they are studless, they are studable. Unbeatable tire for the price.

Also stick with stock size or go slightly more narrow so the tire cuts down into the deep stuff. Wider tires tend to float above the snow causing a skilike effect Think of snowshoes, wide so you don't sink in. Go stock or more narrow, maybe 1 size taller to add clearance. I think there's a tire size chart sticky you should consult at the top of the page. Happy travels!

No. I actually just sold it 3 weeks ago... The girl that bought it just sent me photos of it totalled. A drunk driver went off the road and plowed into it while it was parked in her driveway. Another car to put in my R.I.P section.

there's fate and then there is incomprehensible bull**** like this series of events.

But if you think about it, if she had parked in a slightly different place in the driveway, would it still have gotten hit? If she had gone to the sore to pick up a gallon of milk, it wouldn't have been in the driveway. Or, if the drunk MF hadn't run the last 2 red lights, might they not have lost control?

In my area the Mastercraft brand is quite common and popular, so I usually run that brands winter tire, the Glacier-Grip II... Actually just bought a set for my car a couple days ago, way cheaper than the firestones, and I've never been stuck at all while running them...

As far as the physics of snow driving, a taller/narrower tire will help you dig through the snow better... If you're running a 195/60-15, then I would suggest a 185/65-15, and they might be cheaper, due to being narrower...
