Default Spare tire size for 2000 SL2

My compact spare has dry rotted in the trunk. The size is T115/70R14.

I've checked junk yards and no one has a good one, so I checked Discount Tire. They can get Kumho spare tires in T105/70R14 83L or T125/70D14 93M. Will a smaller or larger tire fit ok on this rim and be safe to run? Do you think they will even mount them as they aren't the original size?

Thanks,
Kent

Crap. Better check my 97 SC2 spare......

If you think about it, how far are you going to ride on the spare? Not supposed to be more than 50 mi I believe.

If the tire holds air without a significant leak and you do not have pieces of sidewall peeling off, I would think it is still usable in a pinch.
If belts have shifted or there are serious cracks, absolutely not. I'm in no way advocating endangering anyone by driving on a dangerous tire.

That said,

It's already 1 in smaller diameter than the standard tires, so driving on it drops that corner of the car a bit. I don't remember the speed rating letter scale, but I'd keep the same (M, Z, W) speed rating. You really should use them on the highway if you can help it (my opinion)

The original spare is already much narrower than the stock 15" tire. If the speed rating is ok, I'd go with the wider of the two listed above (T125) if it fits on the rim.
Can't really answer if it will fit on the spare rim you have, but since the profile matches (70R14) there's a good chance it will as the width difference is pretty small.

Discount tire better be able to tell you if it fits before they sell it to you.

At worst you buy a new or used compatible steelie rim. 4x100m bolt pattern, can't remember the offset. It's in a thread by Rjion. Think it is a sticky in the Ion section.

Be careful, methodical, and let us know how it shakes out
